what type of system is this called? is it like a flood n drain?
It's kinda unique, I've only seen one other setup like this before deciding to make it myself. If we're being technical, it's a DIY top-fed hybrid DWC system using Rockwool and Hydroton. Bucket sits on tote. hole drilled between bucket and tote. tote is filled with nutirent water, bucket is filled with hydroton. rockwool sits on top of hydroton, plant in rockwool. water pump pushes water up the PVC to top feed the plant, water drains from plant through hydroton back into the tote. eventually roots should grow big enough to reach into the tote themselves, at which point I don't need to top water anymore and it turns into a more forgiving DWC system
that's awsome!
I think I'm technically in veg now. I'm having some issues regulating temperature (my tent/grow room is like 90f) but otherwise, things are going well! The Cherry Cola is a little smaller than the CA Snow, we'll see how long the CA Snow keeps the lead on size and growth
Accidentally snapped the top of the CA snow partially off :(
Immediately taped it back together. Hoping it heals quickly without causing too much slowdown!
why don't u just top her all the strength goes to your lateral branches and you'll end up with shitloads of tops
Personally, I've always heard that topping autos is a bad idea just due to how much it slows down the veg stage.. I'm inexperienced though. I figure if the tape bandaid doesn't fix the break over the next few days I'll treat it as an accidental topping lol
you would know by now if the bandaid didn’t work. it doesn’t take long for it to lose life. I always keep black tape handy when training for this reason. I was always told not to top autos also but im not an auto grower.
if your a surgeon, you can splice it back together. or mainline it
Looks like everything is back to progress as normal after that accidental half-topping. First time I've successfully recovered from a mistake like this, God bless electric tape lol
I DID THE SAME LIKE A WEEK OR SO AGO AND I JUST KNEW THAT STEM WAS GONNA JUST WITHER AWAY BUT ELECTRICAL TAPE DID THE TRICK AND WASNT A LONG PROCESS EITHER
Next week, I'm going to aggressively supercrop these ladies with some pliers and lower a scrog net. Unfortunately, the Cherry Cola is a good bit smaller than the CA snow, but I'm hoping they even out during the pre-flower stretch.
Cutting watering down to just 3x 5second events per day to encourage more root growth into the rez!
how you liking the vivosun set up
I did a heavy defol, rez change with bumping up to 2.5-3.0EC bloom nutes, and light intensity increase all too quickly. My Cherry Cola is clearly suffering, some of the farther branches are drying out. I think it's from turning off the top watering too early combined with shocking her from the high EC of my recent rez change...
I'm diluting my rez down to 1.5-2.0 EC, I'm also going to hand water this lady 3-4x a day top feed until she hopefully nounces back. Probably permanently stunted already, but definitely an autoflower learning experience
The Cherry Cola seems to be bouncing back after diluting the rez and top watering. There was a single branch that didn't bounce back which I've now cut off.
Cherry Cola has fallen behind pretty far in terms of size and bud formation stage. I'm thinking it might have even been kicked back a couple weeks on the harvest schedule.. We'll see how it turns out!
Before leaving for the weekend my PH was at 5.9. I came back to find it drifted all the way down to 4.5...
Fixed it now, but only after a little damage to my upper leaves. Currently experiencing some fading and rust spots but only in the uppers; I'm planning on harvesting the CA Snow this upcoming weekend so I just need to hold things together a few more days. Excited to turn this into WPFF!
Tomorrow, I am harvesting these two ladies to be processed into WPFF hash rosin.
My plan is to fill a cooler with dry ice. Chop, buck, and double bag the harvest and throw it in the cooler to freeze overnight.
Next day, I'll start by topping with more dry ice, then drive it out to the processing site to wash into hash. I'm thinking I can use some of the spare dry ice to super-cool the RO water for the wash too.
I'll try to post videos throughout the process.
Pray for me! It's my first time :)
3 runs per plant, 2x plants.
160u, 74u, and 45u bubble bags!
Yes sir! Making bubble hash that I will later press into hash rosin. You use water to knock the trichome heads off the flower, then pour that water through filters to catch hash
Been awhile since I've used mine... really waiting on getting a harvest right to do it right. Until then, I've just been pressing bits of flower as needed. GL on getting that "full melt"!
Microplaned, now it's in the drying fridge. Pictured above is the first wash 73u-160u.
Melty at room temperature 🔥

Sadly, I got a really low return from the two plants.. That said, the quality on what I did get is VERY high. The whole room reaks when I open the parchment lol. A lot of lessons learned for next time, probably won't start another run until the New Year.
You got this, for a grower such as yourself... EZ enuff.
