O man the paper towel method !!! I never had any luck doing it that way .but there's more than one way to skin a cat . I direct sow and use heat pad .Who knows maybe it has to do with climate where im located not very consistent temps.

Possibly it is very warm and dry climate here in calgary ab

Less water, more dome. Cover it with a half a water bottle or something. Seeds dont need wet soil to pop, just barely moist soil and high humidity till the leaves come out. Mist once and a while with water to help soften the seed casing. wet soil may cause it to dampen off (death by drowning).

Yeah I water with spray bottle just enough to keep damp

Howvlong does it normally take from sowing to sprout with direct sow methods?

I germinate my seeds in dechlorinated tap water. I drop my seed into a cup with water and let it float for about 2-3 days. Then I plant the taproot down, and seed casing just at the top of the soil. The seed always sprouts for me at that point about 1-2 days from putting it in soil. I leave the casing on and just mist it. After a couple days it comes off on its own. I have damaged a couple being impatient.
