Grow Timeline (11 updates)
as a quick intro to the current tent before I start the rework when table is done:
at the moment I use a 2x4x8 with a shelf inside for my seedlings, clones, and veg plants. I can fit 6 trays 1024, and use led t5 replacements that, while good temperature, are a little weak, leading to the stretching we see.
on one shelf you'll see the cream of white on the left, some fresh clones of both CoW plants, the Kosher Cookies, Lemon Cherry Gelato, and Gelato 41 in the middle, as well as some recently transplanted kosher cookies and a handful of tester CoW clones. in the other shelf youll see the kosher cookies clones I will be putting on the table as well as two of those CoW testers
so far so good! once the table is done/cleaned and ready I'm going to set all of these on the table temporarily, set up the KC clones to veg a few weeks on the table before flower, up cube the new clones and clean up/ reset the tent, and maybe redo the inside a bit re using two of the lights that were previously over the table (turned way down lol), with a slightly larger shelf frame if I can find or make one out of something....
today I moved most of the veg plants to the table. I will be keeping all of them there as I up pot, finish the table irrigation changes, and clean/redo the tent. I also put most of the small clones in their 4x4 cubes. I'll update tomorrow when I've completed the transplants and up pots of the larger clones!
tonight I put the older kosher cookies plants I'll keep in their 3gal pots. I decided to transplant one of the CoW instead. I'll do that tomorrow. apart from that, field capacity measuring went well. now I just need to fitz with the sensor positioning and make sure i have enough rockwool fill. the first readings are much lower than expected based on last run... we'll see how it goes
so far this weekend the girls have continued to receive their transplant feed. I found a few fungus gnats today, so im going to put up yellow sticky traps and start an Athena IPM treatment cycle, as well as double check the dates on my bottle of hydrogaurd.... maybe it is time to swap that bottle out. all that said, plants are coming back from their tent neglect pretty well so far!
over the past few days I've been working with the opensprinkler team to get to the bottom of an interesting rf transmitter signal pulse timing issue. while we have been working that out i have just watered the plants, letting them get some time in the changed environment before I introduce training. they are bouncing back well so far!
the ec meter for the pulse also showed up, so I integrated that tonight. apart from that, further sensor messing with seems to find that using it vertically into the side of the pot with the center prong 3 inch up may be best. I may try it one more inch down though and do a full saturation test again....
apart from that I've been kinda lazy on the fitting change, sticking to handwatering since everybody seems to want different amounts of water atm (strain and growth stage wise). cream of white seeming especially finicky on the watering front lol. so far so good!
today im working through swapping the lights. I'll also be transplanting a few of the 1gal on the table to 3gal and adding some drippers after measuring the new available space in the tent. I'll get all the pots to full saturation over a few waterings, record the sensor value, and let it dry back until I hit about 50% then start the p2 automation tuned around the sensor twvc value at the appropriate levels of saturation for some good veg queues. from there the schedule will pick up, and I'll tune the manual p1 phase waterings based on the sensor data over the next few days... so it begins lol
tent wise, the plan is to get a small flood tray and set it over the upper top, likely on top of something thin ish and strong to provide support and level/drain direction control... I want to get an automated watering zone going in at least half the tent underneath the Mars hydro light, while reusing the other led t5 replacements to the lower level, adding better light for seedlings/fresh cuttings/freshly 4x4'd plants before they go "upstairs" for veg time. I'll duct in humidity, and change up the circulation a bit to better allow some control. im more worried about heat with the added light input, but we'll see how it goes.... for now I can cheat by leaving the door open while I veg the flower table longer, but that won't be avalible for long once I start filling my net... stay tuned X'D
post edit/update: added the photos from the end of tonight's work. i changed the lighting plan a bit, and ive gotten everything mostly sorted. I have control mounting, and a few other bits and pieces to figure out but this is an awesome step in the right direction. tomorrow I'll transplant the last KC plant, and the large female cream of white. I may regret it but im going to add one of those to the table for this flower run....
once everything is transplanted and set on the table I need to get my net on, clean the plants up. and get my field capacity up while I veg and bulk the ec for 2-4 weeks (lightly). tent plants will get training, some environmental changes, and automated drip and drain/removal after that. we'll keep on truckin...
Look out I.S.S. Here comes RockIt Man and his O.C.G.S.!!!! Honestly man that is looking pretty nice.
over the past few weeks I havent been able to get enough time to really keep these moving along apart from a water change and top off, and some tent hand watering. part of the time away was a trip, and unfortunately some of the plants didn't make it while i was away
following that I kept up with watering and fitzing with the watering control a bit but not much else X'D. ive been crazy busy some other stuff and the girls have been taking over the table X'D
I put them under the net and trimmed them up today, leaving the front left corner untrimmed b/c that may get removed depending on how this is looking.
tent wise, the lighting swap has been working very well. I culled the male clones, and have three more to sex before I re sort the tent, up pot what needs it (everything lmao). the goal is to get that done after the next res swap, during the couple of days the table plants take to adjust more to the net
so far so good X'D
I mean for running automatically that long it's alot better than I would have done
it definitely saved the bacon! if you wanna set up something similar, I can write up a list of general items to get a recirculating setup going. depending on your setup it could also be setup to drain to waste, or something you can clear out easily if you prefer
today the clones got set up to have the tent closed up again.
I added a humidifier to the tent itself, took some clones of the gelato 41, LCG, KC, and the cream of white clones that survived (4 females! woot!) . I also adjusted the lighting, the top gets about 400pfd and the bottom gets about 200 at current canopy levels. well see how it goes with the tent enclosed... im a bit worried about heat build with the updated lighting
pics today are general tent plants, the new cuttings, and the new tent layout for the next few weeks, though i do need to put that dehu in the bottom
next up will prolly be some defoliation/ training over the next few weeks, maybe a tranplant, and maybe getting rid of some of the ones I have before things get out of hand. that said.. if I could add automated watering and under canopy lighting to the flower table it may be worthwhile.... decisions decisions lol
so far the plants have recovered well from their topping. apart from that, it looks like I made the mistake of watering the clone cubes with nutrient solution that had some kelp in it and they are taking forever to root. im going to give them a few more days before taking another shot at this. im also considering putting together a short aerocloner and testing that in here, then transplanting to 4" cubes for next time... time will tell. last but not least we've been battling high temps, and and trying to figure out some ways I could improve the situation
its time to tranplant the plants in the tent unto their next homes. 4x4 cubes are going into 1gallon pots, and starter cubes around going into their 4x4 cubes. after transplant its haircut time again, the plants in the uppe layer have just about reached the light X'D. Will be interesting to see if we can space this out/slow these down over the next 6-8 weeks the table will be occupied
well, I didn't get the to tent maintenance before the trip, and the plants have hot or surpassed the light and kept filling out. at this point im going to make a tray of fresh cuttings to start the process of resetting the tent. I will likely do a really severe haircut to create the cutting materials, then break those down to really small cuttings. these are the before shots, including some shots taken through one of the vents so we could see above the lights X'D
yikes ๐ณ
That's alot of growth!
sea of green the clones!! (40) 1 gallon pots, straight to 12/12 40 single shot colas lol just don't yell at me on water day!!!๐คช
rofl, Right?? so far so good lol. everyone has been recovering well from their massive haircut, and the cuttings all rooted. So it continues X'D
true that! really stoked on the tents performance so far. next Step is a dripper system ๐คฉ
hmmmmmm...... I could make another dripper square with spare parts.... and could totally pull off 2 1-3gph drippers a pot with that kinda scaling.... I wonder if I have enough woodpeckers. or Alternatively it may be time to rig the table up to flood again at that point and just run fabric pots. you have given me much food for thought as always @Glitch , I promise I wont yell atchya when its trim time X'D. *knocking on wood* doesnt seem like it could be any worse than a completely full scrog ๐คช
trimming scrog does suck. especially when it's all tangled in the net lmao. I'm at the point where I barely trim anymore, throw it in a bowl trimmer or I just give people branches. you want it? it's free, you dry it, you trim it, you deal with it ๐๐
rofl, I feel that. I'm there as well. i'll just take off the large fans/de leaf, and cut the outsides/tips off the bud sugar leaves, then buck it down into a paper bag until I bring the material into and get it racked up in the cannatrol. then nothing but dry and get it into groves or a jar to cure. no more major trimming. I refuse X'D
if you don't mind me asking. what's with the pot of 1" cubes?
no worries at all! these guys happen to be "grow cubes". they are much smaller than the clone cubes, and are about .5" tall, .75"long and .25" wide per piece. I have the pot full of cubes primarily as something to expirement with to get a possible top end ballpark of my field capacity. its also been convenient top off supply (i have some more cubes in the same state in a 1gal bag on the table as well lol) while I've been messing with the sensor placement. It will be filled with a kosher cookies plant before too long so far I've been using these cubes as my medium in whatever pot size I've ran. I've also tried just the 4x4 cubes as well, and had awesome results in a flood drain setup in this same table many moons ago. also considered some combo of slabs and blocks, or bigger blocks but just havent gotten around to it yet. so far so good ๐ค๐จโ๐ง
Oh man, I see all you folks building all this cool science stuff all the time, I want to join so badly. I've just resigned myself to look at all your wonderous teknolygys, Then go buy something pre made from autoPot or some such nonsense... ๐
im sure you'll find yourself on the path at some point lol. lotsa awesome stuff these days, autopots definitely included! and some of the open source stuff is getting easier and easier to set up/ find guides or a great community for/behind it. iirc there are some epic home assistant guides. that system is super flexible and well documented and has a pretty great community behind it. here's some stuff for it here if you are interested! - https://overgrow.com/t/pulse-pro-grow-room-automation-with-home-assistant/103413 - https://community.home-assistant.io/t/grow-room-control-with-home-assistant-share-your-knowledge/721807 - https://www.reddit.com/r/GrowingMarijuana/s/qLdyT0wDJ0 may be fun to roll about before getting into your flood/drain soil run setup down the line!
Holy Ganga Balls Batman, you just sent me spiraling down some rabbit holes there. I've seen the pulse pro and some of what it can do in a few of the YouTube channels. I always thought they were a step above my level, but I am rethinking that now. a may not be super good with programming, I did learn enough to long code in V.A.G. that's another stereo engine reprogram engine management system and see what a wagon can do on the track. I also have a buddy who is really good at the computer stuff who's wife loves my weed, and he needs a lot of electrical work done on his railroad, a few trees, I can see some trades being worked out now .. ๐ don't worry I won't tell the wife that you helped me to spend even more on this ๐คฃ
ahhh I thought you were just keeping a stock of cubes buffered and ready to go. lol was thinking damn he must go through a lot to need that many primed and ready to go
rofl, if only I had the space to grow out so many clones ๐คฉ๐คฉ. I wonder if it would be better to get /make an aerocloner at that point though. Iirc the 128 site build fits on a shelf 2x4 ish. though maybe it was like 30ish deep by something longer... I can dream lol
lmao, always fun to explore down the rabbit holes! i'm happy I could send a fun one your way! sounds like you have some dominoes in a row towards starting down this particular slippery slope lmao. definitely sounds like all involved will be the better for it lol. let me know if it it does indeed hit the fan though, I can go under the bus but I'll need a little time to cut and run X'D
Trust, you don't want to fall under that bus! My wife is every stereo type of an Italian/Irish, third generation, spoiled American child, my mother in laws words, not mine, every day... ๐ She did drop a whammy on me this weekend, though. Go look in a bit at the Grow 2.0 post I am about to make...
