Grow Timeline (14 updates)
First 3 pictures are the plant for this grow. Last 2 pictures are me experimenting the same strain, same time growing, same feed and light schedule, however, i topped the one in the last 2 pics. it’s considered a dwarf strain being that it’s only to get 22-24 inches indoors. so i wanted to see if there was much of a difference in yield or height with topping it once compared to the first plant being untouched. obviously me topping the one stunted the growth, but just started getting hairs on the bud sites so im happy.
Oh sh1t, I am doing the same with Apollo F1. I tried to top both but only 1 was successful. Following closely.

they both went strong till harvest! dwarf strain for these
getting a nice spread of the trichomes. buds are moving along nicely. hard to tell in pictures but pretty dense nugs so far for as little as it is. i know it’s not best to mess with it during flower but i needed to do something to get light to penetrate to the bottom half bc the buds weren’t growing. did a simple lst technique, but trying not to over due it to not disrupt the flowering too much. seems to have helped well so far, did it two nights ago.
not much a of a difference than my post yesterday, just pretty to look at. first plant not knowing what i’m doing seems to be working out okay. decided to let them get some fresh air, cloudy but UV is high. image of the three is OG Kush feminized to the left, and the two others are the quick ones. the middle is the one untouched and doing everything by itself, the one to the right is the one i topped.
noticed slight discoloration in the lower fan leaves the other day and flushed it out, seems to be better today. overall happy with how it’s turning out so far, but only time will tell if i can complete this grow nicely.
getting there. ready for all these to be done so i can start up and focus on photoperiod instead of autos. gonna start Watermelon, Pineapple Kush, and another OG Kush, all feminized seeds from Royal Queen Seeds. Hoping to start them up come harvest time for the Quick Ones. Maybe keep one auto going while I’m doing photos, we’ll see. But for now, northern light auto it is.
im new to what im supposed to be looking for, i cant tell if they are clear or cloudy, but some pieces have slight amber but i dont know if thats from being touched or not. the hairs on the buds are all pretty much orange and starting to curl inwards instead of out. any suggestions on how much longer i should wait for harvesting?
still looking clear , u want them to be cloudy with some turning amber . look at the trichromes the mushroom looking heads . when that starts to turn milky u be good .
Sounds like your close. Pistils are all colored and curling. Highly recommend a jewel magnifying glass or a mini magnifying scope.
the sugar leaf trichomes, the little 1-3 finger leaves that stick out of the bud, will turn amber first. you want to look at the bracts, the part where your now orange stigmas are coming out of. from your photo it appears like you have mostly clear ones and almost no amber. I find side shots are the best because sometimes the light can reflect into the trichomes making them appear cloudy. cheap USB microscopes. $20 maybe on 🤢Amazon🤢 are a great tool for looking at them. welcome to the waiting game.... she's almost there!!! good job!!! I've had some that ripen in a matter of days, some have taken weeks for that amber goodness.

never pay attention to the hairs yes they'll be orange or mostly orange , the tricomes are what you need to watch ,like canna b said if you like a energetic high do mily and some clear if you like couch lock wait for them to turn amber or dark tan brown ,and that's the heavy hitting .

3rd and 4th pictures are same strain topped one time version, just slightly behind the untouched plant. can’t get clear enough pictures of trichomes but here’s where they’re at. ready to be done !!
How do you feel about the topped vs nontopped
slight size difference but not by much, this is also a dwarf strain to begin with so not much coming from it, if anything it seems like it just delayed the process by a week or two, but still pretty dense. the topped is maybe an inch or two taller than the untopped, but seems like less bud sites. would do again with another set of a different strain that maybe isn’t a dwarf autoflower to see that difference. i know topping the autoflowers isn’t recommended, but wanted to see for myself and get my own opinion, so far will be doing this again.
I see, I have some photos that im more or less doin the same for. I also plan on doin some autos before it gets too cold outside. I might experiment with it then
yeah i was told not to really do it but i just wanted to see the results for myself, when i get another set of autos im going to do again where i leave one and top the other, but going to try to top sooner on that.
I topped my auto when she was roughly a month. Then a month later she started flower. Shes a bit stubby but has some nice buds on those colas.
i did mine late on that one, it had started getting pistols overnight so i had topped it out of veg in preflower so i think thats why its not much of a difference/it delayed to heal itself and was putting energy into the two chutes going up and stunted the bud growth for a bit. but now it looks like it’s catching up some.
auto flowers are so touchy every time you go to top most of the time it triggers them to flower .
this was a while ago and already harvested! they turned out the same the topped being bulkier with two colas. they flower fast anyways being auto, they flowered at the same time after topping.
see mine flowerd after I topped it as well so I'm just leaving my auto flower alone this time just letting it do its thing n maybe a slight defoleation . I need it as tall as I can . But maybe a trellis net .
yeah i’m done with autos, or at least the site i was using. i had two dwarf strains and then a northern light, they were all the same size and barely any buds. they smelled the same and they smell the same as my brother with all pepper and musty. i don’t think i like ruderalis plants. would rather have fem or regular seed. then i can top away and fix any problems rather than let it grow christmas tree style with nothing on it.
a couple of decent size nugs, overall pretty happy with what i was working with. they were small plants to begin with and didn’t bud up like i expected, but first ones are finally done ! i harvested the one the 19th and the other 2 days after and since they’re pretty small i’m hoping for 10 days hang dry and then jar for cure. they smell amazing, a little bit of peppery with some fruitiness. i know mine look nothing like everyone else’s but im just starting and trying and im happy with MY results so far !!

yup that’s what i’m about ! just growing to smoke and for the experience, hopefully my yields will be better in the future with better equipment and handling, but for now just rolling with it! and this community has been very nice and helpful so i’m glad i was told about this app.
that’s the best attitude! everyone I know that started growing has quit because the yields weren’t high enough or they ran into a problem and gave up. cheaper and easier to go to the dispo blah blah blah. if you have passion and perseverance, the yields and quality will come. then you will have more fire weed than you know that to do with.
your buds look good. covered in trichomes, nice little nuggies, and not covered in nanners. nothing is better than smoking your own grow, except maybe sharing it with others. Congrats!

I might recommend a better light. I got a great deal on 2 of these weird lights. Jamsung (yeah I know) sd-x3. 150 watt with dimmer for less than $50 each and more light than I need for a 2x2 with autos. I have grown almost a qp with one on 77 watts from the wall. Trying for 2grams a watt this grow.
yeah i’m going to upgrade my setup for my next grow, i actually got these square lights my dad had lying around so i have 2 squares for 3 plants, working with what i have right now, but definitely will look into those lights thank you for the recommendation!
it good that u get a grow down , this way u can see if u like growing before u go out & buy lights & bunch of gear . I know people who bought expensive gear & decide it to hard or they don’t like it & wind up selling there lights on eBay . best of luck
yeah i wanna get into it, i dont mind the trial and error and everything, i already spend 150$ an oz once and sometimes twice a week so really just trying to grow some to stop spending so much in the long run. i know theres a lot to it so im just amateur right now, especially my equipment. just growing for myself, really looking for a hobby in something i like.
it a great hobby , I learned from my great uncle who grew since the 1930’s . there wasn’t any info when I started my own grows . it was all trial & error. honestly it really the best way to learn , especially from mistakes. problem with all this info online is that it becomes very overwhelming. this is a great app everyone is real cool & will help anyone out & nobody will troll & trash people. any questions feel free to ask . best of luck . if u growing with synthetic nutrients always go 1/2 strength when plants established & 1/4 when they begin veg stage .

of course ,are u growing in a tent ? do u have any hydro grow shops by u ? they always will help u out . do research on type of lighting u want & make sure it will be compatible for the space . always look for coupon codes & best to buy them when there is holiday’s . I see u using royal Queen seeds they have good genetics. I’ve done test grows for them in the past .
just have in my closet for right now, going with what i have for this grow until i can put the money into a nice set up. i know i tent would be ideal, but i have it pretty closed up with some circulation and some mylar reflective material surrounding the plants. really hoping to get into this with good equipment sometime in the next few months - the end of the year.
whatever gets the job done ,that’s all that matters.
