Grow Timeline (27 updates)

culled 2 of the 7 that sprouted. they had bad vibes so off they went. a fun thought crossed my mind. I need a male and a female and had read a study where after seedling stage you can help influence gender. one of the things was higher n and lower p made more females. whereas higher p and lower n made more males. just happen to have 2 hydro systems, one with low n high p (my flower system). and one that has higher n (my general garden one). plan is to feed each solo cup from a different system and see if I can help influence the seedlings gender. will also keep the low n on 18 hours of light and the high n on 14 to hope and influence gender that way too. I don't know it'll work but hey what do I have to lose
let the experiment commence!
how come you're doing more then one seedling per solo cup? and yea I understand the vibe thing I gotta couple of auto seeds from a friend a few years back that I recently popped and I'm not feeling how they're looking already as seedlings. the coloring even is off already and I started them exactly the same way I did my last autos so just crap genetics I'm assuming
just grabbed a pinch of seeds instead of picking out 3 and those were the first to sprout tails when I remembered I had them in water lol
decided on which seedlings in going to keep. one will be the biggest, the other cups winner is actually the smaller of the 2 in there. it may have the gene I'm looking for in these seeds. I can't tell you what it is yet. π€« if it does it'll be very apparent in a few nodes growth...π€
final 3 participants have been selected. now just need 1 to be a male. I'm not good at keeping secrets so the picture is a hint at the genetics I'm after. the close up picture is just a single finger leaf. look at the deep serrations at the base, that's not 3 leaves, it's one and it's showing in 2 of the 3 seedlings. we'll know for sure in a node or two.......π€π€« should be a fun one if it's doing what I think it's gonna do.....
GL... hope you get 1 male and 2 females!
I keep forgetting about these!!! will you please remind me!!!!
one looks normal. ones in rough shape and one has the recessive gene we are looking for. funky leaves!!!! I'll transplant them into 3 gal containers eventually and ship em outside maybe in another week and let them grow hoping for a male and female!
Any more and you are going to need an assistant π
I'm not taking about it's rough shape. I'm stressing it to hopefully influence gender. I'm talking about the missing finger....
thatβs weird never seen that before,
mom was freakshow. I'm hoping by getting to f2 I can get more of the recessive freak to come out. I don't know what happens in mendelian squares when the recessive genes were bred to be the dominant gene like they were w freakshow
Iβve got one right now doing some weird shit like that. Iβll upload a picture of it tomorrow.
sorry I've been forgetting to post about these. they've been transplanted into 3gal of coco. topped with some hay to keep the coco from drying out. I've been feeding as I remember, at least once every other day.
no real updates, just waiting on gender reveal
cold, sad and hungry, just like an orphan. the outdoor threesome is feeling neglected. I feed them waste water from the hydro ladder, it's been cold and rainy here so they have been tucked under an overhang, barely getting sun when it does shine. on the plus side, they are still alive. I have to cull one of the males. I'll pull the least desirable male once I get closer to flower.
iwhat's the harm in both males pollinating the female? all 3 plants are F1 from the same mom. female on left, male in center and right. both males seem to be showing same pheno. I'm going to cull one eventually, but just wondering what is the downside to having more males?
second picture is female and male side by side, 3rd pic is male leaf structure, last pic is female leaf structure.
interesting I just started digging back into breeding. I guess it doesnβt really matter if youβre going to select from the babies anyways, right? π€·ββοΈ
are you taking notes for the different characteristics youβre breeding for?
I think it would only matter if the males express different phenos in flower or late flower. at this point they look and smell very similar.
The leaves look almost like they got a mutation ? super jagged. did something happen?
yes to some extent. mom was strain called freakshow, dad was a Durban poison from a line that the females had lots of purple. this male was picked because it was one of the biggest and the most purples in the male flowers. I'm hoping by getting to f2 I can get more of the crazy recessive leaf structure from freakshow to pop
ok ok π nice
mom was freakshow. I think they are carrying some of that recessive gene
Since they're F1s you'll just be opening up the gene pool for better or worse. I would. Happy hunting afterwards!
still holding strong. outdoor in coco fed 2x a week
are you looking to breed? the one is a male.
Definitely a male
I have been snorting the yellow dust that's been coming out of it. I wondered why it wasn't working. back to the drawing board!! π€£π€ͺπ€ͺπ€£ jk Going for F2!!! Good looking out though!!
how can you tell? is it because of its big balls?
That plant has big balls lol...chop that one down before it gets it's love powder on any of the ladies...I chopped one down this weekend that looked exactly like the one in your first Pic.
Im looking to go back to my youth and reminisce on the days of brick weed. seeds, leaves and a headache π΅
doesn't have to be that way...growing weed is easy
right on! love to see it. everything Iβm currently running are f1βs or f2βs of my crosses. good luck!
once this f2 comes to fruition I'll probably concentrate on that for a bit. but then again I suffer from 'ohh shiney syndrome' so who knows what I'll do lol. I've been slowly dwindling the F1 of that strain by 'johnny appleseeding' as I call it. (randomly planting seeds in my travels) π€« lol
ADHD is a bitch! lmao. me too. haha
clones hanging out in the aeroponic chamber. waiting for my lazy ass to make up some new culture media. used the rest of the pods to start some random seeds. had the space, figured I may as well. never started seeds in there before, but it's a ton easier than hand watering roxul cubes. may become my go to method, I'll have to investigate more.
edit: add pics of the adults
overall doing well for the lack of care they get. randomly fed from hydro ladder nutes when I get around to it. female is starting to flower, male is flowering and has been for a bit now. randomly collecting pollen. male is around 6 feet tall. not bad for a 2 gallon pot.
no, not bad at all.
Love it!
nice at least you have some seeds out of the male on the right .Be carefull that pollen gets everywhere ! looking healthy
yeah I learned the hard way not to open pollinate indoors...... ended up throwing the tent away. what a mess lol. now we only have plant sex outsideππ
hope my neighbors don't want to growπ³π¬
Very nice for the planter size!
down side of coco outdoors is that rain flushes your nutes out......
idk that looks like a pretty small pot the one on the left looks root bound and yes u won't get nutes if your root bound too idk id check if I were u other than that there beautiful plants
it is a small pot, only a 2 gallon fabric pot. coco+water only=hungry I don't have the time or energy to refeed after it rains and I'm feeding it left over nutes 1 or 2x a week from a recirc hydro system next to it. no clue what it's getting. honestly surprised it doesn't look worse......
with coco container size isnβt that important I have huge outdoor plants in 3 gals of coco. fabric pots donβt really allow for roots binding.
100%. add in fabric pots and it's like bonsai without the digging up and root trimming
found this chunky bastard living it's best life, decimating my tomatoes.....
for being so big, they camouflage really well. nature be crazy!!!
pain in the ass . Iβm fighting these lantern spotted flies . they have to be killed . there from south east Asia & secrete all over plant leaves & destroying trees . so far I havenβt found any on the money plants or my veggies π€π»π
I've seen 1 this year. killed it but last I heard general consensus was kill all you want but they're here to stay. I think it's one of those once you notice it's too late kind of things
Back when I was in transportation, we had a lot of trucks out of PA. everyone had to be inspected and documented for spotted lanternflies. it was silly really, thinking we were going to smoosh them out of existence...
Iβm killing them left & right & they quick . they jump like crickets & can fly . pain in ass
Yes they do... had a hord of them hit my cauliflower patch.
nice purple setting in. bottom bracts are starting to ripen and split open. plucked a few seeds out. in reality this is probably a lifetime supply for me (I'll get distracted and find another strain to play with) but I'll take another 800 more .....
badass
seeds dropping out on their own, going to have rogue plants due to all the seeds on the ground lol.
if you've never done it, seed jail is so much worse than trim jail.....
not weed jail π the bottom of the bottom of jobs huh π party fouls equals seed jail lol
I feel you, some dirty mutt pollinated my outdoor strawberry cough. so not sure if someone in the neighborhood had a male it didnβt herm. seeds everywhere, one of the many reasons I donβt like outdoor
uuugggggghh that sucks!!!! whenever I do my outdoor polination I check with the neighbors to see if they plan on growing. if they didn't plan on it, I get free reign. if they do, no boys allowed or see if a qp can persuade them not to π
chopped her down today. she was spilling seeds all over the ground. quite a few seed pods still immature but enough are ripe and splitting open that I decided she'd lived long enough. these are of the seeds that shook out. the branches are currently hanging over a tote to catch the rest of the seeds while she dries out. even if I didn't get any more, Ill mark this off as a successful seed run. I'll update with a seed count before closing out this grow ππ
You could go into business at this rate!
thatβs a lot a seeds no need to buy genetics 𧬠dose this mean it was a male plant? or what made it produce so many seeds?
well kraz, when a mommy plant and daddy plant love each other a real lot........π€ͺπ€ͺ i was pollinating one of my strains out to f2.
so thatβs were babies come from π bird shit and bee honey π― π€£ thatβs cool so thatβs how they get seeds for certain genetics π§¬
yeah kind of. when you mix 2 different plants the resulting plants are F1. the dominate genes show up and hide all the recessive. take a brother and sister plant and cross them and you get the full gene pool coming out to play I think it's a 9:3:3:1 ratio. dominant/dominant: dominant/recessive: recessive/dominant: recessive/recessive. been a while since I dealt with mendelian squares. you can find some real good stuff in f2 but you can also find straight garbage. beauty is you may not know until it's grown for 3 months
+/- 3000 seeds. will one be the god pheno or was that the seed I dropped on the floor?
you need some help growing those outπ€
man how would you go about testing that many seeds lol. Iβm hoping to find a pheno out of 12 seeds thatβs a keeper and that seems like a lot of work. nice work and good luck in your hunt!
honestly I don't think I could. I get about 15 deep and something else catches my attention and it goes to the back burner. got a lot of back burner seeds...... problem is I have zero luck storing pollen. every time I've tried to do partial pollinating I have no success. so I just let nature do it, end up with a shit ton of seed, but have a hard time getting rid of them because what if the one I got rid of is the unicorn I've been looking for π±

lol
