My first batch of medication — germination, day 1
Need some advice.

Trying this out, got a few things to start the seedling/early veg stage with. Just curious about how they will work or if I should try something else.

SupHerb_Ls

That will work fine but be careful it's clear and could stress plant once roots start showing through the mediums could use a black bag to cover the bottom portion to block light from hitting roots

BuddElmerBudd

SupHerb_Ls is correct light's not good for the roots cover before they break thru your soil cut a piece of trash bag preferably black lay it on the base then place your start container in the base that should block the light as it conforms to container when set

Lynchcorp

Take a square pie tin have em at dalla store or those things you throw in the oven for chicken

IcySativa9377

I've had them take 2 weeks or better sometimes I never give up

GrowMyOwnMeds

they'll germ no matter what then some just take time, gotcha

IcySativa9377

Just make sure not too much water shouldn't be sitting in a pool ,more a puddle lol don't want to drowning 😅

IcySativa9377

Then it'll be temperature and humidity

IcySativa9377

I've also had to try a seedling heat mat as my house is always cooler

GrowMyOwnMeds

yeah i've got them sitting on a seedling mat right now in my pantry lol, gets pretty cozy in there

IcySativa9377

K keep an eye on the temperature don't let them get too hot as they will cook lol 😆

Lynchcorp

Looks like a lot of wata. An if the seed starts staining the paper towel they r no good. Also looks like you got em right up against the bag inside thats no good then seed has to fight the bag to open? Use another piece on both sides an don't use as much two pieces a side at most

StewsGrow

Are they between the paper towel looks like they are on top?

GrowMyOwnMeds

I was told that you don't have to put the seeds between, as long as they were in a dark place. Should I put another paper towel on top and see if i can save them?

Ripe_Sativa4906

I soak the seeds for 24 hours, and then fold them in a wet paper towel. Within a day or 2, I usually see a taproot.

StewsGrow

I could be corrected, I believe most the germination guarantees out there have specific way to pop seeds. I use a Cannakan they would not honor the guarantee.

Lynchcorp

Huh

Lynchcorp

Yes you should an you don't gota take all the air out squeezeing it. jus makes it harder for seed to pop but after 3 day of not sprouting In my opinion there's something wrong especially all of them

DreamyCookies

Make sure not to wet and doesn't go over 30°c I've lost some in the past and ended up moldy

Lynchcorp

I don't even do the 24 hr thing unless...unless the seed shell is really big an thick looking an I have taps in 16 hrs. throw in container between paper towels after u squeeze em out a couple times bc of bleach

DreamyCookies

20°c - 24°c is the sweet spot I've found been having 💯 of them popping

DreamyCookies

Ye mine usually pop within that time too sometimes 24 hours I don't soak em either

Lynchcorp

Go to this community form an germination that's how I do it

Lynchcorp

@CannaGrizz Take toilet paper squeeze out twice with distilled water to make sure no chems. Then take a tupper ware container put seed in middle of paper fold spray with PhD distilled water but not soaked an put inside container. Take something to hold lid open about a half inch or less wrap with dark tshirt. Put on top of dsl box or something that gives off heat but doesn't get hott hott . Oh an put a ceramic food plate on top of dsl box another T-shirt balled up in-between container an plate jus to be sure it jus stays warm not hot. Check every 12 hrs or less to make sure it doesn't dry out.

Lynchcorp

American is 75 80 is that what u saying in yours???

DreamyCookies

Ye I'm just used to Celsius lol

Lynchcorp

That's what I try to tell people your drounding your seed lol

Lynchcorp

We on same page that's all that matters 🤞💯hopefully he takes sum from this^^

Lynchcorp

Lmao sorry for the blow up jus trying to help ya. An for later on only do two atta time in case something happens you can change the way you did before that an not loose many

joshuad420

Start over. Take a damp paper towel fold it and put the seeds in the middle .keep and eye on it an make sure the paper towel stays moist not soping wet .and when you close the bag keep a little air in it so it has oxygen in it .chec k the. Every 24 hours for paper towel dampness and signs of tap root . If you use a seed pad keep it turned down very low . Honestly you dont need it iv never used one an iv always had 100 % germ rate .do this and your seeds will pop

Wheelz

Yes the paper towel does look a bit too moist, I would try a new paper towel just moistened and blow a little air in ziplock before you ziplock, make it look like a little pillow. Keep temperature stable.

Skunky_Indica2545

I dont do that anymore i use float tech i had so much trouble doing it that way have way more sucess just putting in a shot glass of water and just let them float in a dark warm spot of course

Make a lil hole with a tooth pick put tap root facing down in soil water then put a little dry soil on top of seed( very lil couple centimeters on top of seed jus so it has sum to push thru do not water again the soil that's dry will suck up moisture from wet soil. And give a couple drops of water once it pushes thru🤘🤙🤞💯 Btw congratulations an happy bday for the lil ones!!!!

GrowMyOwnMeds

how consistently should i water after planting? Using foxfarm ocean forest for the whole grow with NO NUTES! (Running an experiment) Not trying to burn my plants. Also using a clear grow box with a light, 18/6 so when the plant does sprout there's a better chance it has light right away. (Was told to line my pods with black trash bag material because the grow box is fully clear, meaning the roots will be absorbing light when they poke through. When I do line my pods, I should still be leaving the drainage hole open yes?)

Lynchcorp

Nnnnnoooooo don't do it do not use fox farms ocean forest they will die or stunt n burn

Lynchcorp

Pm me please I hate messaging here I gota close app an keep opening it

Scary

Performed actiontype.watering

Found these little girls sleeping the other day, removed the dome and intensified the light and they popped right back up! Unfortunately the plants will be permanently stretched and I wish I caught on sooner but, we recover :)

Been watering more often too, once a day maybe twice if soil is bone dry on top. Get it nice and soaked and let it absorb.. Think that's good. FFOF as growing medium.

They're almost ready

I think they're almost ready for transplant! Lost one unfortunately, root rot got the best of her and I tried to remedy it but she just did not respond :(

They were growing exponentially now this is how they're looking.. I don't know whats the problem, what's causing those tiny spots, and my other plant is leaning pretty bad. Need some plant scientists here before I start grieving

Fighting

Transplanted them into final pots for fear of unhealthy soil. They seem to be stabilizing decently. I had to prune a little. New growth is experiencing some sort of lockout, will make sure runoff ph is where its at.

Maybe just start over that one looks real sad and it's only what 3-4 weeks old at most?

DirtySouthGrower

What was in the soil? I need to know what happened here. Be specific. Soil brand, how much water . Be precise, be honest. Are you feeding? Indoors? How much light? It's definitely over watered, pH issues, really hot soil. but also looks like a desase, or.. idk. It's hard to say from a photo.

GrowMyOwnMeds

Indoors, grow tent. Found out the vent should be open during the day, i have been suffocating my plants pretty much. FFOF grow, had an overwatering issue which is now fixed because i reduced waterings, they're recovering from that.

Skunky_Indica2545

Always have venting and fresh air coming in minimal imagine u are the plant u need fresh air and u need food and water and light and dark treat it like a kid lol

DirtySouthGrower

Do you track VPD? Or just go by temp and humidity? If you have the means, VPD is a more reliable metric than just temp and humidity. I want go into exactly what it is because you probably know, but if you don't this may help you. I'd just keep the air flow moving, do you have an exhaust fan? And the humidity about 55, 60% . The vpd will change depending on the temp. You may still be able to save this one. But when I get into a situation with a sick plant, if I can't save it in 2 weeks, I walk away. You can do it. But it will take a while to turn around. The air flow, new soil, let her dry back. That can take 3 or more days. Just check the weight of your pot. Let the plant almost wilt beforer you water again. That and fresh air could do wonders.

GrowMyOwnMeds

VPD usually stays between 0.9-1.2KPa. Let the soil dry out yesterday and watered this morning with PH'd tap water, along with Foliar Feeding nitrogen and calmag, which I will be putting a stop to now as there are proper nutrients in the soil. I keep humidity around 60-65% and temp won't go over 75° unless I add a space heater.

DirtySouthGrower

One thing you don't have to worry about with FFOF soil, because it is organic. Is pH-ing the water. Its totally fine but the biology will handle it. Well... I get it though . The plant is in distress and you still dont know the deal. So yeh, I probably would at this point too. What I have noticed in my years of living soil "making" is as soon as the water touches the soil, it immediately changes pH to match the soil. It's really hard to move in soil if it's not right. It can take weeks if it's wrong. But if it is, then there is something causeing it. And if you just repotted, it should be ok. But if you e added anything... Especially lime, it could make that pH spike. I think it was off before but it could be ok now. Your VPD is perfect. So damn... It's a waiting game now.

GrowMyOwnMeds

I did find out what the issue was I think, between inconsistent nutrient numbers and deficiencies, I also found out that I was suffocating the plant by having the exhaust run with no intake (bottom intake vent has been sealed since I have gotten the tent). With the vent open the plant seems a lot happier now and with foliar feeding nutrients every morning they seem to have bounced back well for now.

DirtySouthGrower

Cool. I can't wait to see the turnaround!

They're fighters.

Pruned the lower, necrotic leaves. They seem a lot happier now that I have given them better ventilation. Turns out on a grow tent there is a vent at the bottom that should be open during the day, I wish I knew that. They immediately went and started springing back up once airflow was introduced. Hoping to see these babies survive.
