Grow Timeline (32 updates)
Tent arrived today assembled, light and circulation fan hung. Filled my grow bags with coco/perlite. trying to figure out what watering will look like. I have 10" saucers and 3gallon bags. I think I should get risers to go under the bags.
Exhaust fan arrives tomorrow, but I'll be gone most of the day. I went kinda cheap on most of the things so far, but I did get a nicer AC Infinity exhaust fan and controller set.
if you need any advice just reach out brotha good luck and welcome!🙏
😁🙏 thank you
My lung room is the old coal room in my unfinished basement. The house has AC, but the basement doesn't have any vents. It's a bit cooler, and definitely more humid than the rest of the house. The desire here was to decrease VPD, but since the lung room was already at 75% humidity venting the tent wasn't doing much. I've had an old oil filler space heater for a long time. My goal is to keep the temp in the tent at about 75° during the day. The heater is on low with the thermostat at about 50%. The heater is on a smart switch so it it really runs away I can kill it remotely.
Depending on the growth stage, your VPD is pretty acceptable. Seedlings are are around .4 to .8, Veg is .8 to 1.2, and flowering is 1.2 to 1.6.
It's all new to me, so thank you for the clarification. 😁🙏
Anytime, this is a pretty cool forum. lots of people willing to help. I certainly don't know everything, but hopefully I can help.
the AI is a pretty nifty tool too.
Mixed 1/4 tsp of DynaGro grow to 1 gallon water, adjusted pH to 5.9 and gave each plant 100 ml.
I'm following this schedule:
https://www.growweedeasy.com/watering-schedule-for-cannabis-seedlings-in-a-3-gallon-or-5-gallon-pot
I'm currently on "day 3" which calls for 200ml, however my plants are still in solo cups so I'm going to divide that over two days.
Not really sure at what point veg starts, but looking at my plants, I don't really think they're seedlings anymore. The function change here is that I've adjusted my daytime target VPD from 0.8 to 1.0. Not certain what my night time VPD will be. It's been at 0.6, so maybe try to get it to 0.8?
For now, for day time, changing the minimum fan setting from 0 to 1 looks to have bumped up the vpd nicely.
do you have a pH problem, they look like mine and I'm fighting high pH.
I didn't lower it enough at my last feeding, but I fixed it in the yesterday's feeding. I'm also not really sure exactly how it should look so I'm just keeping on.
Should look lush and consistent green. Could be just settling into a slightly loaded potting soil. Anyways, I consider the first sign of 5 leaves veg state. Happy Growing!
I would recommend adding some magnesium magnesium is responsible for green color in your plants. also recommend lowering your VPD to .8 in early vegetation
Thank you. I had just raised it to 1.0 yesterday, but I'll take your advice on this (it's been cool and rainy, so the environment pushed it down anyhow). The Dynagro does have some magnesium in it already. Do you recommend a specific product for only magnesium, or should I just grab some calmag? I'm not sure on the mineral content of my water, but maybe I'll switch to distilled if I'm mineralizing it.
Thank you. I think I'm just being impatient. Based on the other reply from Six I'll try to adjust some things
don’t do distilled water. epson salt is pure magnesium sulfate and cheap. I run . 8 VPD until 3-4 week of veg. Helps in transpiration at that age.
thank you 🙏
how much Epsom salt per gallon should I use?
for foliar spray use 1 tablespoon per gallon. for soil use 1 teaspoon per gallon. I would recommend a foliar spray to speed up the process.
just to be clear, I mix the spray at the ratio you indicated then spray them after the lights turn off? Im guessing the guide like is to slightly dampen the leaves, not drench them?
spray the shit out of them underneath leaves, stems everywhere 👍
perfect! thank you again 🙏😊
you are just a wealth of pertinent information six! 👊🏼
💯 @Six did is. I appreciate your advice, too @NoWatThisIsRral
Six know way more than me but thanks. we all want to see these flowers grow and be shown for future purchases 😂
Watered (d11) 1 L per plant. DynaGro Grow @2.5 ml/gallon. 1 Tsp/ gallon Epsom salt as recommended by @SIX. Also, last night I liberally wetted the leaves with 1Tbsp/gallon Epsom salt.
definitely some yellowing to keep an eye on.
looks like you got a little phosphorus deficiency going it looks early so if u check it now no harm no foul over all BEAUTIFUL PLANT 🪴my spelling is 💩 sorry
@SIX replied to my post yesterday saying he thought it was a magnesium (or was it manganese?) deficiency and recommended using Epsom salts both in the watering as well as a foliar. I did spray it good with that last night and feed watering today. The Dynagro Grow is 7-9-5 and I'm using it at half strength, and watering is pretty light (1 liter in each of the 3 gallon pots). Do you think I should increase it to full strength and/or increase watering?
no I think ur doing just fine if u took them steps it should correct either or
😎 Cool. Thank you very much for the advice. I'd consider myself to have a black thumb overall, so it's feeling like a minor miracle that I've gotten this far. The feedback and advice on this platform has been awesome. 😁
phosphorous deficiency
Still have yellowing. Several people have indicated it's likely phosphorus definiency. Increased nutrients from 1/2 strength to manufacturer's recommend strength to full strength.
Looks like I watered a day early, but I think this is ok given the still relatively small amount of water and the current nutrient deficiency.
It looks better than two days ago. 👍
Thank you again for the advice.
I've been following a watering schedule, but I think it's for growing in soil.
https://www.growweedeasy.com/watering-schedule-for-cannabis-seedlings-in-a-3-gallon-or-5-gallon-pot
This has been watering small amounts every 3 days. In reading up on growing in coco coir, I think I should be watering (at least) once per day. I just watered (plus nutrients) 1 L and no run off. I'll probably repeat this evening and hopefully I will get sufficient run off then. Still new and figuring it out. 🤷♂️
I feed to 10% runoff no need when just watering. coco is hard to overwater. I water twice a day when in veg. lights on and lights off.
coco doesn’t hold the nutrients as well as soil so feeding them more often with lower ec is what works for me.
Yeah, I've been a far cry from that, which I think maybe has also contributed to nutrient deficiency. I'm going to basically follow these steps https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/watering_coco/
I'm curious, how low in EC? My tap water is reading 353 us/cm (176 ppm)
that’s decent Mine is similar I add cal mag almost every water when young until I see signs they had enough. coco steals calcium from your plants as it breaks down. so Now I add a tiny amount of crab meal to my coco mix to help feed the coco. don’t use too much or it will cause nitrogen issues. I find better results with it.
my ec for that stage is 500-600 at most. strain depending.
500-600 - Is that the EC after mixing nutrients? My last mix was: - 1 gallon water - 1 tsp Epsom salts - 1 tsp DynaGro Grow I've got about half a liter left and it's got a ln EC of 2400. 😮 and my runoff was 6100. (but should I filter that first somehow. it was dirty from the tray)
Yes, Total dissolved solids (everything)
So I'm mixing in way too much nutrients?
it doesn’t really need a lot right now. 2400 is really high. think like the roots are a straw your nutrients are a milk shake too thick and no sucky. yours rt now are trying to suck hard ice cream 🍨
what you're saying makes sense. I'm just trying to reconcile it against the manufacturers instructions. I get that they're motivated to sell more product, and had previously read to mix at half strength. but now it's looking like I should do 1/4 strength. 🤔
what is the NPK ratio for dyna grow?
7-9-5. Link to Amazon that has an image of the back label showing full breakdown as well: https://a.co/d/3IoyIWW
I’m only giving you the things I do. If you feel that you need more than give more, you are the one with her every day so ultimately up to you
I'm gonna try to follow your advice. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not misunderstanding it.
I also implore you to ask others on the app, there is always multiple routes to the solution, I’m not always right, unfortunately.
you may have better success with a ratio 3/1 nitrogen to phosphorus and 1-1 on nitrogen and to potassium.
15-5-15 some use 1:1:1 I think it’s too much phosphorus
Daily watering is a must is soilless medium, be prepared for up to 2 gallons a day of nutrient solution
yeah. I'm doing 600ml per 3 gallon fabric pot twice a day now (trying to reduce the EC)
they look REALLY GOOD What was wrong?
I think I was massively underwatering and under feeding them. I think the watering schedule I was using was for soil. 🤦♂️ SIX got me pointed the right way!
aw yeah SIX 6️⃣ is awesome ppl!!! for sure 💯💯💯
They do look good. Looks like you're still getting growth. Growth is better than no growth.👍🏻💪🏻
I'm on the fence about using this app to track watering and feeding now that I'm watering twice a day. Itd be useful to me personally as a grow log, but I don't want to clutter the "timeline". Is there a way to keep posts private, etc?
don’t add a title and don’t put over all notes and it doesn’t post
🙏 Thank you!
nice work on the plants btw
Thank you very much! I've previously managed to kill every kind of plant I've owned. Your advice got really got me pointed in the right direction to have a minimal understanding of what I'm doing. ❤️
this app community is cool lots of growers willing to share knowledge. back when I was learning, everybody keeps it to themselves and f the next guy. so have any questions take advantage. some advice better than others so a bit of research may help. Happy Growing 👊
We just update the post. You can include multiple actions of the same kind but you need to select another action and then change it. For example if you water in morning and post. Then go to update the post with a 2nd water select feeding and then change it to watering.
Thank you! 😁🙏
Thank you! 😁🙏
You are very welcome. Hope you stick around 😃
Same!
🍻 Cheers!! We haven't gotten into coffee ourselves but we are getting more interested in mushrooms (not just magic). Fungi are fascinating
100%
Now that’s a fancy cup a some French. very bougie baby yeah 😃
I've been having trouble keeping the humidity from dipping above 60% (it doesn't get much over it). I have a good, but relatively small dehumidifier (20pints). The lung room isn't really sealed.
So I cut a hole in a cardboard box for some flex vent and put the box on top of the dehumidifier, open side down.
Yeah, it's kinda janky. now I just have to figure out how to balance it. 🤣
I bought a package of 3 seeds, but it contained 4 feminized autoflower seeds. I planted two of them six weeks ago. now one is flowering and quite a bit bigger than the other. I'm thinking maybe the 4th seed was something else all together, and that these are two different strains.
Since one of them is already flowering my real concern is that they won't be at the ideal harvest point at the same time and I'll have to either sacrifice one of them or find a way to dry one while the other is still growing. 🤔
Most likely one leans mother, and one leans father... though there's some shade in the market so it's possible. I've seen people who bought autos and they actually were photos... 🤷♂️ As long as they're both 🔥🔥🔥 in the end.
Yeah, it looks like the smaller one is starting to flower. My curiosity is now how to handle things come harvest time, when the smaller one appears to be about a week behind the larger one. I was planning on drying in my tent, but that assumes nothing is growing in there.
I feel like right now it's kinda cruise control. Watering twice a day, but results are looking good. Stopped worrying a bunch about nutrients and EC. Just make sure there's some run off, and take a zen approach. Temp, humidity, and VPD seem good since venting directly from the dehumidifier into the tent.
Outside air temperature is getting cooler and will probably need to turn on the heat in the house in the next few weeks, so hopefully everything stays in check with that change.
Harvest time is getting near.
1. Should I stop giving nutrients? (not it's in coco, so the medium would flush clean fairly fast I think)
2. I've got another plant that grew slower and is about a week behind. I was planning on drying in tent, but I had planned on harvesting at the same time. any ideas on how best to proceed at this point (find another place to start the drying? let this one go just a bit longer so that it's harvesting a little bit late and the other one is a little bit early?
you need to get a jewelers Loop to be able to see the tricombs better they are only 7-10$ on Amazon
watch for the tricomes to start to turn amber, just start, not all amber
plant #1 (of 2):
I think I harvested this one too early. Also because plant 2 was still growing, I dried this in my lung room which was very dry and the herb is over dried.
But it's my first grow, so anything that will get me high is a win.
2.25 oz from this plant
I bet it still smokes ok. Congrats on the harvest dude.
thank you. it smokes ok. not super potent, but a very nice feeling high. 😊 hope your grow is well.
they will. roots even go through fabric pots. just don’t over water. peat holds lots. with autos it’s recommend to plant in large containers. cut bottom of plug and place in final container. once their roots hit the bottom they will start flowering. so as much time as you can to prolong this will result in large plants.
Thank you very much for the feedback! cutting off the bottom of the silkscreen makes sense. I just see occasional stories of the tab root failing to escape the peat pot bag. I'm just trying not to be impatient
