Grow Timeline (56 updates)
Well I got it repoted... it was looking pretty droopy when I zipped up the tent. hoping I did completely screw it up. Also adjusted the lighting to around 18" and 250 PPFD at the top of the plant. also dropped the humidity to 60%
I'm a little concerned with the spots on the leaves. I don't know what is causing it. I haven't started adding nutrients yet because the soil was preloaded. I adjusted the lights to about 24" above in case it was a light issue. any advice or ideas.
foliar spray cal mag she needs it. rusty spots are from calcium deficiency
They need a lot when young. building bocks so to speak
I'll go pick some up. Don't have any calmag yet. the nutrients i will be feeding have it in there already so I was hoping I could get by without having to get any.
it’s best to have separate. foliar spray works the best when the rust spots show up. they will be tiny white dots on the leaves, this is the first sign of deficiency. too much cal mag, the edges of leaves, the edge tips will start to turn white then brown.
100%
Did calmag foliar spray it hope to fix or stop whatever is going on. Up to this point I have had it under light 24/7, but I shut off the light so I wouldn't risk light burning the wet leaves. I'll turn the lights back on in a couple hours if the leaves are dry. Fingers crossed that this helps. I think my next step is to start feeding. I haven't fed to this point because the soil I'm using has a good amout of nutrients already in it but maybe it's time. We shall see if this works hopefully very soon
topped and adjusted the lighting. She is looking good after the first feed last Thurs. The brown. spots have not gotten any worse and overall she is looking good and strong. Went ahead and cropped the bottom 2 stems. figured they wouldn't get much light anyway, no sence in them sucking energy that could go to the top.
she looks great! keep it up. keep eye on ph fluctuations
if you want her to stretch, dim and raise light cooler temps at night and warmer temperatures in the day. I use a 8 tube T5 light, works great to veg
I have a short tent. it's only about 6' tall. I have the lights about 18" above the plant and I'm only running about 250 PPFD. I cropped the bottom 2 small stems as well.
Gave another feed. Added recommended mix of calmag that wasn't in the last feeding. figured I'll give it every other feed unless plant tells me different. adjusted the height of the lights to account for plant growth. 18" above and holding at 250 PPFD. so far it's looking good. on a wild hair, i tried to plant a couple clones off the timings last week. I didn't have any of the cloning nutrients or gels but I'll be damned if both clones didn't take. I'll give them to a couple friends that are getting ready to start their grows in may.
I run advanced nutrients & watch cal-mag has nitrogen in mix most brands have it . especially when in flower stage
👍
Well the learning curve is steep on your first grow... Those brown spots came back as well as very dark green leaves some minor discoloration on the tips of the newer growth. best I could figure out from my grow bible and research was she was in lockout. I think where I went wrong is following the nutrients chart to the letter plus adding calmag to the last feed. I "think" i may have OD'ed her on calcium. best thing I could find was to do a flush. Hopefully that will clear up the lockout and put her back on the right track. I'll be watching it close for the next few days in hopes of this all clearing up. Pics aren't great. she was out of the tent for about an hour. so it looks sadder than it was. side note- can anybody tell me why these things grow just fine in the wild, but you put them into a perfect environment with plenty of nutrients and they turn into divas?
not sure why you think lockout, my thoughts are you need more cal mag, your ph may be a bit high, I think your issue is your VPD. what temperature and humidity are you using
if you have too much cal mag the edges of your leaves, first turn white then turn brown and keep burning. the leaves look similar to nitrogen toxicity
spots on older leaves don’t go away even if you have fixed the problem, look at newer growth
If you had a lockout your stocks would be purple
I went to a troubleshooting site and it symptoms that it described for calcium overfeed described what i was seeing. my current VPD is .82 which shows on the Vod calculator on this app as optimal. it was looking a bit better after the flush this morning. the spots were on the newer leaves at the top and had none before. My biggest b problem is me. I only know what I have read and researched. I'm quickly learning that you can't always follow a certain path to the end. it's more of a dynamic situation and the plant will tell you what it needs. I'm learning, just not as fast as I would like. lol
you can't see it in the pic but there was a fair amout of purple, especially leading to the fan leaves that where effected and had the brown spots
the purple on the leaves is caused by ph fluctuating. their stems, are always purple. Is the main stock purple?
sometimes it’s like googling your health symptoms.
did you put a lot of cal mag in?
I'm starting to see that. lol
about 7ml which is the recommended on the bottle. a couple of thr other nutrients I had has it in there as well.
right now it's nice and green
try 5ml for 2.5 gallons I use mine at 10ml per 5 gallons check ec before you add any nutrients, your water ec needs to be added to total, if you have hard water or soft makes a big difference
yeah if she was locked she wouldn’t be green, they will get purple veins up their stocks if they are stressed good indicator something is up.
so what do you think I should do now. should I feed or give it a few days to dry out the feed
so what do you think I should do now. should I feed or give it a few days to dry out the feed
give a foliar spray and see how she responds. if possible, I run my veg VPD at .6, they love it like a jungle, they aren’t native to the mid west, lol, just have enough air circulation
she isn’t stressed too much, let it dry for a bit, get some air to your roots. ph water/ nutrients to 6.0 to bring ph down a bit, you will start to see the leaves get a bit lighter green, the healthy kind, then maintain at 6.2-6.5 you should be good, if your in soil, don’t worry too much on runoff data, just what is going in, it’s a good indicator on about where your at though.
thanks for letting me pick your brain
just pass on what you learn to others, you need anything else let me know
looks like over watered
I'm in soil and I don't worry about runoff at all. Cloth pots with the proper Nutes added between normal watering at proper pH and all is well. last 10 days or so I flush with like 20% runoff that's enough for 2 good waterings before I chop them
he flushed it with 5 gallons
yep. noob grower. it was out of thr tent and light for about an our. she picked right back up as soon as I got it back under the light
Did a light feed after this week's issues. fed half nutrients. so hopefully this will go better. I checked the pH and ec of the runoff. ph was 6.8 and the EC was 3.1.
now that is the color she likes to be, nice work bud you can get rid of big damage fan leaves, they won’t be helping you.
I will do that in a Friday. at work and won't be home till Friday morning
She is looking much better than last week. I cut out all the damaged fan leaves and a couple that were blocking light from the lower growth. I have a couple questions so I don't make the same mistakes as last week. What are the best practices on watering vs feeding? Do you vet growers feed every time?
I feed them when they want it. how I tell is. they start to get tiny purple veins in new growth stock, if you can catch it soon enough it will go back to green. she speaks sign language, you have to learn it to understand her 😮💨 my plants are getting 1.0 ec you don’t need much nutrients. just keep ec and ph in range and correct VPD. that’s the key 🔑
sounds good. ill keep an eye on it. do you keep your runoff ec below a certain level?
depends on stage, rt now my run off is around .4-.500 ec my input is 1-1.2. my plants are large and in a 7 gal. if smaller I would run less. also depends on the strain too some are eaters.
Gave veg week 3 feed mix. took a few more fan leaves off to help get light to lower branches and help with air flow. checked run off, ph at 6.7 and ec at 1.9. All in all its looking good. had some good growth this week.
I am going to be off to work for the next few days. I went ahead and gave some more nutrients as well as did a little more pruning of fan leaves and some of the lower growth that doesn't get much light. The runoff ph was 6.8 and the ec was 2.2. I also gave a try at starting a couple clones from the bottle growth I cut off, figured it was worth a try. it is still looking healthy and I may flip it at the end of next week. my borrowed tent is only 62in tall so I'm running out of space hight. I plan on getting a new tent this summer that is a 4'x4'x80" so the future grows should be fuller when I flip them.
super crop the tall stocks and your canopy will fill out more, causes lateral growth and widening. if you want clones topping is also a way to even canopy. it’s how I get mine even ish.
👍
got off shift this morning and checked her out. She's lookin good. Today I started preparing her to flip next week. I cut out all the lower growth that I know won't produce once she is flipped. also cut out a lot of fan leaves that were blocking light. strawberry cough is a bushy bitch so you couldn't tell that I even did any pruning last week. I did the week 4 feed mix and it took it all. no runoff... not a drop. I will need to pay more attention to watering and feeding from here on out I guess. I also did a little high stress work on it. I got the top branches bent down and it a good spot for flower. I also did some kushman chiropractic work and managed not to snap anything off. it's not very big yet but I don't have a very big tent. worried that it will be in the lights before it's done. so I may flip her before the the end of next week if it grows much more. all in all, I'm very happy with how it's going so far. Hat tip to Six and all of you that have helped me out on this first grow. If it doesn't turn out like complete crap it will be because of you all. thanks for the help to this point and the help I'm sure I will need in the near future.
i posted a request for help this morning. i got home from work and the pot was lite so i went ahead and did give it a feed. i added calmag to the mix but backed off a little on the base nutrients so i didnt hit it to hard with nitrogen. looks like the foliar spray this mornig stoped the issues i was having. i plan on flipping it next Wednesday. any trimming advice is welcome. you can look at my post from a couple days ago to see a side view if needed. (post from this morning) best I could find was this was a calcium or magnesium deficiency. I did a foliar spray on it this morning. it had a good feed about 2 days ago so I figured but I haven't been putting cal mag in my mix. how do you vets deal with calmag. do you ad it to your nutrient mix or do foliar spray. I'm running the advanced nutrients organics so the calmag has a lot of nitrogen and I have been a little gun shy on adding it to my mixture in fear of overfeeding on nitrogen. thanks for the help.
earth juice Cal mag has zero nitrogen..... I feed 1/4 tsp per gallon once a week
I fucking love the "Willow" movie BTW. YEP I GOT IT
lmao, It was that or Jack Burton
so do you think I called it right. my plant needed calmag?
my nitrogen source being calcium nitrate, and magnesium from Epsom and the calcium I get from tap water, i don't find myself using calmag too often. I'll add some in on water change day if I remember, so it'll get a fresh dose every 2-4 weeks but I don't usually use it in my top off in-between
today is the beginning of the end. I'm flipping the light cycle today to 12/12. began Bloom nutrients. I removed some more fan leaves that were blocking bud sites. I learnd a lot in the veg phase and there are a few things I'm going to do different next time. time to see what I learn on my first bloom.
did another feed. clones looking sad. took them out of the tent because of the flip. looks like they dont like the outside. oh well, I dont have room for them anyway. maybe once I get my tent upgrade I can grow them in the little one.
growth is explosive in this first week of Bloom. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a tent that will give me more grow hight as well as more space to grow out.
I got the same tent, you will like it, well built. window is cool to watch plants.
good deal. I was researching the different tents and I settled on the vivosun pro. it seemed like the best tent for the money. I will still need to upgrade my light and fan system. but I will need to save a bit for that. I think I'll be going with the 6" ac infinity pro set and a Spiderfarmer G5000 light. the light is still something I have been back and forth on which one to get. I also like the ac infinity 500W iron frame, but its $200 more than the G5000.
sounds fancy, my lights for veg I use t5. 8 bulbs $100. my led 800w $335. don’t need to spend a lot for good results. my thoughts anyways. 🤷♂️ doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but it works for me. I had to learn how to do it as cheap as possible without sacrificing quantity and quality.
that's the goal. I don't partake myself. growing for my wife. She has back problems with a lot of pain and my buddy grew some last year that actually helped with her pain levels (strawberry cough) which you can find at the dispesaries in my area. My goal is to grow the best stuff i can for her. if i can pull off a decent first grow, my hope is that I get better at it from that point. To be honest, I'm having a blast growing it. I wish I like to smoke it too. lol
can't go wrong with AC Infinity evo6... currently running it in my 3x3. Strong performer. You can see the results yourself if you look at my 3x3 grows.
Hey Six what 800w light are you using for that price? , I'm looking into buying another light
it’s super basic, can only dim 3x but it’s all I need. I will dm you the details
Thanks
The new tent got here a day early. got it all set up and got the gear and the plant switched over. it looked big in the small tent. Hopefully she will spread out now that she has the room.
nice 👍
nice I'll be adding a 4x4 full setup from them soon to my 5x5. will run photos in the new tent and autos in the 5x5
I liked the extra support that the pro tent offered. it cost a few bucks more but it is worth it.
At the start of week 2 flower. Gave her a feed and defoliation. Seems to be doing good in the new tent. I can already see it spreading out a bit were it was confined by the small tent before
yeah buddy, looks good
Week 2 of Bloom looking great. Added trellis netting a couple days ago and got it good and spread out. all in all im very happy with this my first grow. I have learned a ton and having a blast growing.
u can’t tell it your first grow . looking good . use organic’s that will break down in time for the plant . try using compost teas . u can buy the powder forms . recharge or stash blend will definitely benefit the organic grow .
Start of week 3 and she's growing fast. doing a little defoliation every day or 2. Will stop at the end of week 3. looking strong and healthy. spots haven't been back sence I starting giving a little calmag at the start of each week. I think im starting to figure this out a little. I do have a question thought, does anybody run Vivosun gear and lights? if so, what are your thoughts? im thinking about getting the smart grow hub controller and the X4 Aerolight A100.
gave her another feed. Looks like I will have to give her another haircut. She's pretty bushy but I dont think I'll want to do anymore trimming after this week.
nope 👎
use that net and open her legs up, tuck under as much as possible
Well, she aint to pretty but i think its a win so far for a first time grower. I does fill up the 4x4 tent pretty good though. Did the final defoliation of the grow. I hope i didnt overdo it, but the way she is growing it will be bushy as crap again in another week anyway. So far I dont think I haven't made any major screwups but i still have another 5 or 6 weeks to go. heading into week 4 of flower and im excited to see how it does. doing research on curing so im ready with the stuff I need when the time comes.
For curing, I recommend if you haven’t cured much, Boveda humidity packs.
I was planing on getting those. I also have small digital humidity/temp gauges for each jar.
with the boveda packs you really don’t need, they keep it 60% all the time.
will you still need to burp the jars?
will you still need to burp the jars?
yeah unless you get the bags, I have not used. But the co2 buildup can ferment the buds
I was thinking jars for the 1st 30 days to cure. then the grove bags to store it in
Start of week 4. Looking good to my inexperienced eye. I just wanted to thank you all again for all the help and advice as I muttle through my first grow. I'm already lining up plans for my second grow as soon as I get this one harvested
getting some browning at leaf tips and edges. I have been feeding with every water sence I started feeding. thinking to much nitrogen so I backed off the base noots my 1/2.
nice looking good and strawberry cough is one of my favorite.
getting fat and smelling good
was looking at your grow u came a long way with this one I seen that pic when she got pale on u . awesome job love that your using organics too I do as well I found this app part way with a six plant run bootleg style lol sorry we give 2 fuks here probably way funner for me !!!!
im just muddlin through. its a tone of fun. I've already got plans for another grow when I chop this one. a buddy is giving me some auto flower seeds so ill give that a go next
after I clean house I plan on giving autos a whirl always did photos but doing pretty much to say I can do that too
im just doing it because its free seeds. lmao
1st day of week he and she is growing good. this will be the last week of nutrients. It will be water only 1 week from today. all in all this has be a lot of fun. I have learned a lot for future grows. I cant wait until I have a good light the ones I have just arnt strong or big enough.
What is the purpose for of the net?
I makes it easier to spread the plant out so it gets better light and airflow during the flower phase.
this is my first grow. I bought the grow bible and did a ton of research. I learning this just like you. good news is that these folks are great. Just make sure you take advice from ones that have been doing this a while. lol
Lol definitely. Thank you and Goodluck!! It looks great so far.
im about 2 weeks out from harvest
looks great 👍 add if you can a bit of magnesium sulfate, she needs lots of magnesium to bulk up, sulfate helps in flavor aromas, terps. just a suggestion
also potassium sulfate helps. just a little bit, makes a big difference.
thanks six. the only thing I have is the calmag but it is about 4% nitrogen. Will that hurt or help?
I think my big issue is the light. I dont have enough and I havent been able to afford a new one yet. Im not near the DLI it needs to be. but hopefully by my next grow I'll have that squared away and she will have all the light she needs
Half way through week 10 of flower. still not seeing any Amber tricomes on the buds. sees not ready yet. im looking for about 15% amber before I chop it but she is stacking up great and feels dence.
Good observation. I agree. she hasnt started swelling yet. I'd keep pushing her as far as she'd let me go
its my first grow. im trying very hard to be patient. I know I cant rush it and im willing to give it the time it needs. she's been getting nothing but water for about 2 weeks now.
being patient sucks. I am still seeing clear tricomes mostly cloudy but no amber on the buds yet. she's getting close but not ready yet.
hey how long did you keep your plant in veg please tell I'm still learning but your plants are beautiful 😍❤️ what's you secret on feeding them
lol. this is my first grow, so im just trying not to screw up to bad. as far as the vedge 4 weeks. if you look back over my posts you will see everything I did. I included all noots I feed, ph, and light ppfd. my secret is a lot of research, I bought a grow bible, there were several people here that gave me good advice and a whole lot of luck. and that's just 1 plant. had a small tent when I started so I just popped 1 seed. when I got the 4x4 tent I just let her go crazy and used thr trellis net to spread it out a bit
keep doing your shit bro I love it
Well, I think its time. I'm seing the amber teicomes at about 10 to 15% range. im going to go dark for 48 hours and chop it. I want to thank all of you that have helped me with this grow. your knowledge and advice has been invaluable getting me through my first grow.
nice job looks great!
First grow is in the bag!! Choped her today. did some wet trimming to get off all the fan leaves i could. light airflow in the tent, not direct airflow in the buds, temp in the room set to about 63 and humidity to 60.
looks good
7.15 oz was the final trim weight. not to bad for a light that was half what I needed. im pretty happy with the result
I like strawberry cough so much energy. my wife likes it to clean. 🧼 nice work, when’s the next one? 😎
great job!
im going to start 4 auto flowers in a couple weeks. 2 blueberry, 1 northern lighs, and a purple punch
I finally pulled the trigger on a 6" exsaust fan/grow hub controller. I also got a better light. next grow should be better now that I have a more powerful light. should start new grow in a couple weeks. CAN'T WAIT!!!!
nice how many watts is that light ?
400W but its also tunable spectrum with the grow hub controller. the spec sheet says it should do about 1298 PPFD at 18"
I run the same setup So far, no complaints
nice
o 400 plenty I'm running 150 watts mars hydro I'm about 18 -24" away I'm still going to have a nice harvest but I know I'd get more when I can afford a bigger light or someone hands me down one
I am running the AW200 in a 2x4 and am very happy with the results. the fan in the light works great as well for moving that air from top to bottom. I was thinking of running 4 AW200s and a couple of the non wing 100s around the perimeter of a 5x5. should be enough space to run like 7 Autos with a little square for me to step into to check on them, maybe...
that's what I had in my 4x4. I had 2 spiderfarmer 1000, 100W lights. it just didn't give me the PPFD I needed for the bigger tent. ill be starting a new grow in the next week or 2. looking forward to seeing the difference between the 2 light systems

I am thinking that you'll be impressed. Vivosun seems to be stepping it up a little with the new releases in the past 2 years.
I heard they got bought out by AC INFINITY. there quality seems to be stepping up. and they are affordable. so far i have been please with it.
I thought it was still a family business or some such nonsense... 😆 I am definitely pleased with the setup I have. the 2x4 pri kit with a bunch of their toys added on is pretty decent for autoflowers so far...
im doing an auto flower run in a couple weeks. then ill do another photo
I keep saying I will get back to photos... been 30 years! 😆
So the cure on my first harvest has gone well. almost 3 weeks into the cure and it smells amazing (and not like hay). humidity in the jars holding steady at 62%. have tried a little and shared some. so far it seems to be a winner. new grow starting this week. stay tuned.!!!
welcome to the growers club, If it was mine, this is what I would do. 85 degrees and 80% humidity She will rocket in growth and fast. check my grow if you want to see if I’m giving bad advice. Have fun. you will never again have your first grow. enjoy every minute. cheers
one more tip. raise your containers off the ground. organic growing your dirt has to be warm for microbes to thrive. btw I just harvested strawberry cough
thanks for the welcome. I have the pot on a stand so it's off the ground. I just repoted to a 5 gal grow bag but I'm a tad concerned of the spots on the leaves. they were there before the repot and I thought maybe a nitrogen deficiency. figured the new pot and added soil with preloaded nutrients would fix it but I'm kinda flying blind.
