Experiment Time

popped our bean today

we have leaves going on now!

We're still in the seedling stage but moving along rather well. I'm starting to wish I'd used a stax can and not pringles since she's not super happy getting wet. ill probably duct tape the rest of the can for some extra protection against it falling apart on me. if it does ill be sad about it but ill just repot her and move on, it's an experiment after all.

Honestly this little lady here is moving along better than I expected. we're on 18/6 lights at about 60% intensity. she's in my personal blend of coco, perlite, bio char, worm castings and seedling mix with some 444 organic dry food, nothing too hot overall but should get us through veg at least and ill swap over to liquid feeding once she gets hungry.

over all testing here is going to see how big I can get an auto in a can since we know autos tend to flower once the taproot hits the bottom of the pot the depth should do nicely and it'll be fun to do.

I've also got a new tent on the way! once it gets here I'll be setting it up in the basement for breeding. first attempt will be fem seeds from an auto.

we've got more leaves (plus some concerning rust colored spotting) and growing well for the most part. if the spotting progresses ill dose her some calmag to compensate. I did use prebuffered coco but she might just want more calcium. my dwc lemon cherry cookies screams for more calcium constantly and ill be taking that into consideration when I grow thay strain again in soil later on. (its gorgeous and i need to try it again.

other than that shes moving along well

newest leaves are looking okay those first few still look rough but haven't gotten worse/the new growth looks fine. she's watered as needed once the medium dries out to run off with said run off being removed after.

looking at some adjustments i think we're getting some lock out from the coco after all so ill be adding extra calmag moving forward

my little experiment grow here is coming along, calmag seems to be doing the trick nicely though now is appears we've got some minor burn on the tips. ill live with burnt tips for now. I am curious if we'll see some flowering soon or not. my last mini experiment hit flower in about 3 weeks but that was a much smaller depth on its pot. Pringles here has almost 3 times the depth. I've also got a few mystery autos in solo cups im just running to use up while I wait on my other tent to get here so I can start playing with making my own fem seeds and playing with crosses for personal use.

well miss pringle here appears to be both screaming for food but also burnt for some reason. the soil blend i used here wasnt too hot but I think that initial lockout didn't help her out. new growth is hungry older leaves are crispy. I will be taking those off once I see some preflower signs. I'm also continuing cal mag and added in my favorite advanced nutrients ph perfect trio. its likely my correction for the lockout stripped the existing nutrients from the soil more than I anticipated. which is okay this was an experiment after all. her sister seedlings are doing okay hoping to repot into 1gals if I can get some in the next few days if not theyll stay in solos its not a big deal. I have stopped using my basement as the main grow for the summer, our hvac makes the basement way too cold for that without tents. im considering getting a 2x4 or 3x3 to add down there for my mother plants who are just chillen under the lights right now, my main mother is just going slow from the temps and my revegging project is working on one of the two plants. im not giving up on the other just yet though.

this was taken yesterday I've been super busy adjusting to my new job so I've been slacking on updates.

We have started preflowing so I've tossed up a net and will bending branches gently as needed through preflower/stretching. shes still looking hella rough in general but we did take longer to hit flower than the mini i ran did so my theory of the depth of pot seems to be valid.

its been a bit since my last update and there hasn't been a whole lot to report. I still haven't taken any leaves off this sad lady here but she is stretching well under the net. Shes only getting water with calmag currently and the new growth at the moment looks okay. certainly not great but not terrible. her tent mates the 3 solo cup girls are a mix, two are stunted from the nute burn and the third is looking wonderful to where I wish I had put her in a larger pot. its most likely too late to repot her as her leaves are past the edges of the cup itself now.

I may toss the stunted girls but even if I got a few grams off them if they make it I won't complain I just wanted to use up the last of my mystery autos.

once this tent clears out (and I fix it my wonderful cat decided to climb the side and I now have pinholes to cover up) ill be running a photo, which one im not sure. I placed a mix 420 sale order with fastbuds and got a mix of seeds (autos fast flowers and normal fem photo) but I also placed an order for some seedsman seeds too so ill have a ton of genetics to play with. second tent should be here in a few days where ill be working on a cloning project from the revegged mother I took in a while back. out of the two plants i was trying to reveg one was successful, the other died on me sadly most likely from transplant shock. they were sisters so im happy at least one came back. if I can get a clone of her to take ill be sending her into flower with some sts and hopefully get a batch of seeds from it. then ill take another clone to make into a new mother and just flower out the original plant.

Even with a the stress and bs she's gone through miss pringles here is flowering rapidly. She's still looking rough and I haven't done any leaf removal since id rather not stree her further. once im sure shes done stretching I may take the lowers off but I might let her continue as she is.

As for her tent mates? well two of the solo ladies are very stunted (they had the same issues as miss pringles) however the third solo cup lady is actually looking fantastic and im still mad i decided not to repot her in time. oh well it'll probably make for a shorter veg time since my last mini experiment also flowered early. Id have to go back and check but I believe that plant flowered in three weeks and did seven or eight weeks in flower before I pulled her, she also suffered with over feeding.

My clones still haven't rooted yet but aren't dead. this is my first try rooting right into soil, last time I rooted in rockwool so we'll see what happens.

My basement girls are living, my main mother hasn't ben happy with the cold from the ac but my revegging gal is shooting more nodes daily it seems. I topped some of them hoping to get more viable branches for clones later.

I'm hoping to get enough good clones from her to not only create a new mother (I'll just veg out the current plant and let her go) but to attempt grafting onto my mother plant, and reverting with sts to get a round of pollen.

Im hoping the results from my little solo cup experiment will show how large of a cola I can get a small plant to produce so when I do start my breeding project I can just do small seed runs on multiple plants for some variety in my genetics.

In a perfect setting I'd revert one medium sized clone off the reveg plant and use that in a cross with not only itself but with a few other strains that have traits I want then do some pheno hunting and additional crosses.

Ideally ill make a few crosses amd narrow down until I get the exact plant im looking for and ill have enough of the earlier generations to keep some varieties so I dont get too bored.

Plus if my grafting project works well enough I can self cross any of the plants I like enough to maintain extra seeds.

Well miss pringles is doing a lot better, she fianlly is starting to really come out of that lockout/toxicity she was dealing with. Times like this remind me why photos are easier, if this was a photo I'd probably give her another week before flipping but that's neither here nor there at the moment.

I may repeat this experiment with a photo that I can keep going longer in case I run into the same issue with the soil blend. I've made adjustments to my big bin of soil so hopefully that won't happen again. I'm also going to use a lays stax can next time I try this since theyre plastic.

All that said, miss pringels is getting watered twice daily, roughly 12oz of water every 12 hours. I'm watering to run off each time as well just to be safe and ensure water hits the bottom of the can.

I do fully plan to take root shots when I harvest her in a few months, FB claims 10 weeks on her so I'm expecting a solid two more months, give or take a week or so based on her size.

As for her tent mates, the mini solo ladies are doing as they will, one horribly stunted, one stunted but going on okay, and one progressing well for her size, I mean let's be real shes in a solo cup shes not going to get that big. no sign of flower on any of them yet.

My clones aren't rooting yet but theyre still green and not looking bad so I'll continue watching them as see what they do.

Mother photo is lush and in need of some trimming but I'm leaving her be for now. My reveg is bursting with new branches and I can not wait to start cloning her. I still need to build my breeding tent I've been so busy with my new job its had me slacking on my mother's.

Im hoping to clear out the experiment tent fully by mid summer so I can try something new. I've got a ton of FB seeds (autos, fast flowers, and photos) and some photos from Seedsman I really want to try.

Well miss pringles is bulking up nicely, im actually quite impressed with how shes rebounding.

I've taken off a few leaves here and there but otherwise have left them alone. I'm debating on thinning her out more we'll see what I decide in the end with her.

Her solo sisters are riding along, the biggest appears to be starting preflower with the middle sized one having caught up nicely size wise. the smallest is still trying and I've been considering culling it but on the other hand it'll be fun to see how long it'll take to do anything.

Now miss pringles here has been overall impressing me simply with how large she has gotten overall and how big her colas are for just entering week four.

I do feel like we are hitting about the halfway mark and if im remembering correctly Gorilla Cookies is a 10 week auto.

I would not be surprised if she ripened a little early if only from the stress and everything shes gone through.

That however is neither here nor there because we still have 4+ weeks left on her.

I did weigh my remaining stash last night and I should be able to make until harvest of this lady here. I was a little umm generous with my last harvests and have been more careful with how much im going through right now.

I was also out of work for about 6 weeks with nothing else to do other than smoke while I waited to start my new/current one so that also didn't help.

Basing on how she looks currently and my previous harvests on similarly sized plants if I get decently dense buds I'll see anywhere from 1.5oz to 2.5 imo once were dry.

Obviously not the biggest numbers but for a damn peingles can that was super stressed i'll take it happily.

I am hoping to finally build my other tent this weekend as I get Monday off as well and should finally have the time. I'd really like to move my revegging lady into a tent and warm her up for clone production. She's getting lush but I know she would be happier in warmer temps.

Basement is usually colder/warmer than the rest of the house depending on the season, winters sit around 75 and summers about 65 right now just with how my hvac runs.

The tent will make it easier for me to keep the heat up on her for a bit while I get some viable clones from her that I can run at least one batch of seeds from.

I've got my sts spray (just need to add distilled water and im good) and some cs spray as well dor breeding. I am tempted to get another tent for the basement, just a 2x4 that I can keep my mother's in and leave that other 2x2 for just breeding as planned.

I also need to get some more pots, I want some 1gals I feel like that would be the right size for plants I'm going to seed. Since those plants wouldn't be used for anything other than the seeds and maybe some hash at best.

What I think I'll do when I do run my crosses is do one plant for pollen then put in the 3 plants I want to cross (one or two self crossed and some autos I want to cross with the main photo for this project) and just let nature do its thing.

Smaller plants will give me less "wasted" buds smoking wise and I dont need that many seeds. Im not selling them, I'll give some away of course to my friends for fun and whatnot but my goal is making something I'll love that smokes how I want it to.

I also know someone with some super old seeds but I cant for the life of me remember which friend has them. If I can get my hands on some older genetics even if we have no idea what they are I might try some projects with it.

this is mostly an excuse to show off some pics of how shes doing also featuring the best of her solo cup sister plants.

Well she is getting hungry now, went fron overfed/locked out to now hungry. I've added some liquid organic feed to my daily watering for her, its a 312 and im feeding half strength. I'll probably continue the light feeding for the next week or so probably cut her off around week 7 or 8 of flower and ride the end of life with just water again. she's supposed to be a 10 week flowering auto so I dont want her fading too fast on me and she's no where near done bulking up.

Tent mates are doing well, tallest solo cup lady is wrapping up her stretch while the middle child solo cup is still taking her time if she gets much larger at all, the littlest one is actually doing better than expected and I'm glad I didnt cull it. my bin of clones are still alive but no sign of roots, the color is starting to fade from them finally so maybe soon?

I also clipped a clone from the revegging gal and instead of going right into soil like the other clones I've got her in a rockwool cube so hopefully she'll take up soon, ideally ill get a decent start on that clone so I can pot her into a 3gal and get her going enough to try sts on half of her once shes large enough.

I think for ease and less wasted buds I'll veg her big enough for duel purpose and when I get ready to flip her ill get the purple lemonade auto and lemon cherry cookies auto going since they should flower around the same time. this way ill get those auto fully pollinated and the reveg clone half seeded half pollen.

Then ill just let that tent run until seeds are popping out. ill be able to smoke the two autos and ill toss the buds from the reveg.

Edit: Added some macros, these are the first ones from her. we're still way too early to harvest but I was moving stuff around in the basement where my mother plants have been (decided to finish off my older mother who's been begging about 8 months now. if yall want to see her flower out leave a comment and let me know.) and brought it upstairs since ill need it for that tent before I would downstairs.

We've been in a holding pattern, daily watering with light feeding still but I think shes most unhappy with the current 24/0 lights while I waited on my new timer to get delivered. I moved the one id been using to the basement tent for right now to flower a photo but my upstairs ladies are not happy. thankfully the new timer gets here Tuesday and I can put them back on 18/6.

We're getting some cloudy trics but were not close yet, pistils are starting to recede now as well as we enter the home stretch. shouldn't be more than 2 weeks left imo.

We're getting closer to the end, buds are fattening up wonderfully and were getting cloudy trics. it shouldn't take too much longer before I chop, shes supposed to be a 9 week flower and were rounding week seven now I belive. I haven't been paying attention to be honest.

Spent the last week and a half sick with covid which sucked so I neglected mt ladies for a bit. This meant now that im finally feeling better I had to dig in and get all the extra dying/dead leaves out. spent a good half hours going through miss pringles alone gently tugging each leaf and removing anything that popped off. Even with the twice daily light feeding shes been eating those fans.

She is slowing down her drinking now so I'll be switching over to just water on her until chop.

I also officially ran out of my stash. I had to buy from the local shops and I'm so spoiled now, the stuff I got is okay, does the job, but the nugs are tiny and sad compared to what I've grown.

At least the 3 color girls are all a surprising size and all in various states of flower. Each one has anywhere from 6-12 weeks left imo. The tallest of the solo girls will probably wrap up in 6 but theyre also not getting enough attention and are not really enjoying the 24/0 lights. Thankfully i'll have my regular timer back for the tent Tuesday when my new timer power strip gets here for the basement ladies.

Spent a while dealing with mold in the basement tent from the humidity, thankfully she hasnt started growing buds and I've removed a ton of plant matter and got a fan going finally. once the new strip comes ill have outlets I can use on her and we should be golden. Also will be spraying down with peroxide tomorrow and resetting the whole tent itself anyway again so I can bleach the thing out to be safe.

Even with that I'll be watching her like a hawk and I might just make hash out of her and not smoke any flowers from her. I'm almost tempted to do sts on her.

I was plucking some dead leaves and realized just how massive some of these colas are.

Like these are hands down some of the biggest I've ever grown. And it was grown in a fucking pringles can and was fucked from the start on the soil.

I am very tempted to just chop her already but I can also go a bit longer on her.


The solo cup gals are also impressing me, theyre so tall for being in solo cups I wish Id been able to train them they would've been even bigger.

The clones are doing whatever, nothing is dead at the moment but I really dont like clones.

I'm going to have to do a few cuttings of the revegging plant I want to breed. I need two solid clones one to generate pollen and another to make the seeds. Im going to run the two of that plant then start a few of the auto strains I want to cross with so I can run one whole tent to seed at once.

Then I'll start pheno hunting and that'll mean more clones for testing its gonna be a labor of love to get a plant that hits exactly how I want. I'm never going to run out of seeds especially since end goal I'd have three versions of the final plant, an auto to grow outside in the summer, fast flower if I ever run low and want something fast, and a photo version I can veg for a while to experiment on.

Well I chopped her today. could I have gone another couple of days, sure but she was ready enough and I needed her out of that tent for the 3 solo gals. I will be taking a bit of a break from here while they wrap up and we'll pick back up with a new grow once that happens.

Next one will be something, not sure yet what I want to grow. I've got a bunch of stuff from fastbuds and others from seedsman. I will update with a final dry weight in about 2 weeks. depending on the weather my basement will get a harvest dried in about 7-14 days usually takes about 10.

Well the heatwave helped dry out our bud a bit faster than id have liked but its fine ill live. We ended up with a whopping 51.8g dry and trimmed. shes not as dense as I'd have likes but she's not bad at all. now shes packed in cure bags and packed up. one bag has my "top shelf" buds packed away and ill dip into the not as great buds as needed.
