Curing Cooler — grow_setup, day 3
First Item Arrived / Proof of Concept

Works as it should. Built prototype diffuser for the atomizer. Will shrink it down to scale once cooler arrives.

More to follow...

A Curing/Storage Cooler.

👍🏻

let us know how it works . I been wanting the cannatrol but can’t bring myself to spending $1500 . was looking into those electronic, camera cabinets. I not sure if the control temps I know it does humidity

It's alive...

Still some small things I want to do... but for now it's up and running. Test will be how stable it performs over the next few days.

are u converting that from something? I been do little research into seeing if those camera & electronics cabinet would work for both drying & curing bud . I like to hear what u think about using that or maybe rigging it somehow ? I know it has humidity control.

Stash

lol... too early for me this morning. Basically a cheap man's Cannatrol. Don't know if it's better or worse. I'll add a post tonight showing the first 24hr stats. Built out of a Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, added peltier for dehumidfication and an Ionizer that I simply drilled a hole through the bottom to extract water from a drip tray. Controlled by the 79 Controller Pro.

CannaBee99

u need to change ur name to McGyver . that some cool shit . u gonna try to dry in that .

Stash

At some point yes... It's just a condensed environment, which makes controlling any drift in parameters more managable. But I have several tents equipped to dry in just as stable climate. Problem is sometimes, they're in use doing other plants duties. I'm still on the hunt for some flat racks that fit properly. Probably have to make them myself as it's very odd dimension of 13.25"×11.5". Suppose that's the most efficient size for 20 wine bottles for the manufacturer. Other than that, if you grew up smoking and growing prior to the turn of the millennium, you designed, built, proto'd and refined the next build. My shop class teacher, always gave me a hard time on projects he let us have free reign on. One of my favorites was my box car racer bowl. I drilled out a bowl under the removable hood and routed that to the pre-drilled CO² cartridge cavity. When he asked me why I did that, I said for the High Times and said don't you want them low? He chuckled and walked off.

I’m an old timer as well . my situation isn’t the greatest. only place I can keep tent is the garage . after this run finishes I’ll switch outdoors . way to hot & not running AC . working on the grow guide seeds that were sent . I’ll do them outside & sex em . I only want 2 plants. I’m in a community with HOA . it legal here . I did 7years for growing so I get paranoid. i looking at the cannatrol also been thinking about ac infinity combo unit heat/ac I have there heater which was good . i can’t wait to see how u make out & I’ll be checking ur progress 🙏👍

Stash

Awesome & Understandable. I too have been eying the Terraform 7

Chris

super cool. thanks for sharing

Stash

Yeah man... It's holding steady. 👍 Seams like it can stash ~ 2lbs. Curious to how much it can cure out.

CannaBee99

only problem is every time I look for it never in stock . looks like u have to go on waiting list

Stash

Yeah it hasn't been released to the public yet... pre-orders only ATM.

CannaBee99

2 pounds that good amount .

I'm going to keep my eye on this. I've been trying to brainstorm and design a drying/curing chamber/cabinet. I have a base idea to build the frame with wood, insulate with 2" foam insulation board, and try to seal everything up inside so it's mostly water proof. I'll need to put in a peltier cooling unit and dehumidifier. I'm not much of a electrical engineer so I'm not 100% sure how to connect everything, but I was going to use an AC Infinity controller as well. The internal dimensions I was thinking were 34"x34"x58", so quite large. Not sure how much cooling I'll need.

Stash

Where there's a will, there's a way! I would opt for multiple smaller units (cooler sized), because I think it would be hard for it to stay cool if you went that big. If you find a peltier cooling unit capable of such a feat you let me know lol. I want it. If you're looking for cheap and effective, you might have an old ice chest that's large enough to fit the bill. Remove the handles (if any), tilt verticle and frame that bad boy with the wood of your choice. That way you know it's airtight***, fully insulated (foam injected) and it should already have a built-in drain. How did you plan on inducing humidity, just in case you're away for exteneded time? Because, to my understanding, once humidity of the plant matter is regulated with the environment. The Environment may need external humidity to continue to regulate vpd to prevent over-drying. This is dependent on outside environmental conditions, because the drain port is going to drain the excessive moisture & allow a little bit of air exchange from outside over time. Also note that this build, as configured, literally can be done in an hours time. Since I've done it once, I can easily build another in a half hour. Just something else to consider, though my dimensions are much smaller than what you're wanting.

BigHoss

If needed I may reduce the total height. I've been doing calculations and all the coolers I've found I would have to have two of them most likely. I was just thinking go with a size similar to a 3x3 tent. As for the internal humidity I was thinking something similar to what you have. I myself have a 3D printer that I could design something up in a CAD software to house the hardware to mount inside.

Stash

The issue I ran into is that all the Thermoelectric Peltier devices I found had a -6>-8° from ambient temp, for less than 30L of volume. Hence me taking the simplest route possible. I didn't want to have to go down the trial and error path, that may result in an investment loop. Now if you calculate your volume, and divide that by "x" Thermoelectric Cooler capacity, you'll get the number of units needed for your space. But then you'll likely run into the same damn issue when running the peltier Dehumidifier. To top that off the humidity extraction side is the hot side, so it's actively working against the cooling when in operation. So you'll more than likely have that issue to tackle as well which will more than likely up the number of Thermoelectric coolers needed to offset the heat radiating from the dehumidifiers. Which at a certain point, it just may make more sense, involve less labor & more power efficient to pre-order AC Infinity's Terraform 7 and a 3x3 tent and call it a day. In fact, that's exactly my next setup I intend on purchasing, so that I can start the drying process there and then when I have it all trimmed down, transfer to this mini cooler. Another thing to consider is the controller 79pro or similar won't work as it's only 2 ports. You'll need at least 3. One for the cooler, humidifier, and dehumidifier. So if ACI is your choice, you'll need a controller 69 (69pro if you want WiFi) + 3 Outlet Controllers. Which adds some $$$ to the bottom line as well. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, or saying it's impossible... just saying it may be impractical when it comes to End of Project bottom lines. Though, if you're seeing something I'm not accounting for or have solutions I'm not privvy to, please enlighten me. I'm always willing to learn more to up my game as well. Good luck buddy! Projects like these are fun. To bad this wasn't more involved, but the price was right and I needed something ASAP to keep my last harvest fresh as possible during curing. It's getting judged for a competition I'm entering.

BigHoss

Gotcha... Yeah I'm just in the design faze of it all. I've not made any investments at this time. I may just build a drying box first then work out how to add the cooling and other electronics later. It'll be in my basement so hopefully I'll be able to control the temperature a little better as far as keeping it cool. Maybe just have an inlet and outlet fan with filters to start and possibly a small humidifier just to reduce the chances of drying too fast.

Stash

You got this... Basement is an excellent location to help keep things cool.

BigHoss

Hopefully..... I need to build soon because I have an auto that's about ready to harvest

Stash

If you have central ac, you could fork off that as an intake and have the exhaust control venting to hit desired temps. The only downside to that is the remote location of the thermostat making it less than optimal, but still better than nothing. Just keep your intake high to let the cool air drop and exhaust low to vent out the excess cool air.
