Grow Timeline (9 updates)
I had 4 sprout and one trying to (out of 5) and then checked on it the next morning and the smallest one is gone and ants are in my pot. I plan to relocate them into individual pots soon after they get a little bigger.
Slugs and moths are notorious for that. If its near a light at night that could be attracting them to the plants.
It's far enough from the porch there is no light on it. I have been putting cinnamon to help rid of the ants. I guess I'll take it inside for a few night. It's also getting cold again.

Are the ants on the plant or the soil? Might be making a home in the pot. I would also try a foliage spray with bacillus thuringiensis just to be safe
I can't tell if they are digging in it but I see then taking bits of plant and bark sitting on top of it.
The ants stole 2 plants (out of 5) and dug it into my dirt while making a home. I had to replant them a few days sooner then wanted and found the 2 plants deep in the dirt half gone. Hopefully they do okay and at least one will be a female. Fresh clean dirt and cinnamon on top of it to help keep any ants from making a home in it again. If not for the seeds being old and did not expect them to even grow I would honestly be a little upset lol. Any is better then none when you expected none to begin with.
They really like that soil. What kind are you using?
It was some that I bought last year but after leaving the pot outside for the winter I did not realize ants found it as a good home until after planting in it. I even used my hands to turn the soil before planting and did not see any bugs till the next day when one plant was missing. The dirt I have now is dug out of my yard ensuring it is all clean dirt. I have left the soil in the pot outside the year before with no issues so I did not think twice about using it again.
Ah that makes a lot more sense
Ita algud they want there soil back wouldn't you? You gota bake the soil outside on a lil coleman pan thing an reamend the soil. It's what I did with this years outside plant dirt
I seen something about drowning the dirt to clean it. I wonder if mixing a tiny bit of vinegar into it would help get the traces of ant in the dirt prevents more from going back in. I just don't know if it will throw the balance off for anything in the soil.
It will don't do it. Look into grits they use it down south I guess they eat an take back to queen an explode her from eating it lol
Or diamacious earth jus put wherever they are going in at. It's like glass to them I guess an makes em bleed out
I have grits I can try that with. Thank you.
Np figured it's worth a try if they that bad
They have perked up without having the ants eating them.
Put holes in outside of bucket about the size of a screw driver tip heat it up poke thru. An I'm saying this because they are doing good now but when you water a lot that soil compacts quick so try not soak that soil eitha because it'll take a long time to dry an suffocate the plants. Ps if you don't know how jus pm me I'll walk thru if not good lucky buddy!!! They are growing nice so far
Thank you for the tip. I have grown in the buckets before with no issue. I do make sure that it does not have too much water. I water it enough to wet about 2 inches deep when I water then and maybe more when they are bigger. I have found using the buckets is the easiest for me right now so I can move them if needed during storms so they don't over water or messed up. Would using a water bulb be better? So it's a steady flow without over watering.
No a water bulb would be too much water. An I do the same in summer jus not 5 gallon buckets. Wind here is bad. But this messenger is hard to use please pm me if any questions.
Thank you!

I believe one of them is a female. I'm so excited 😊 it will be my first female I grew.
Though I hope your early prediction is right, its too soon to tell. They haven't shown you their private parts yet, so to speak 🤭
I know lol fingers crossed 🤞 I have only grew mails so far.
You growing bagseed or regs?
I'm not sure. They were given to me and I was told it's mixed female and male. They were old and gonna throw them away and I wanted to see if I could get them to grow.
Im guessing bagseed then. Must be some seed they found in bud. Watch those close for sure
I know it's still too soon. I feel like I have 1 male so far (the taller one). With the other two, the leaves are growing differently like it might grow flower but is staying shorter then the other one. I also had half the root fall off the for sure female but managed to get it back to good health and growing (the small one with the red stem). It is getting it's green back.
I don't see any preflowers on that node. I usually don't see them until the plant has fully grown it's 5th node and you'll see them there when it starts on it 6th
I know it is still too early but I only grew male one and these two look different this go around compared to the taller one and the male I grew last time. I'm mainly going by vibes at this point but the leaves on the two shorter ones look different. All three are at the same stage and was planted the same day. they are on the 3rd node.
Too young to tell needs about a month of veg before it even begins to attempt to show sex
There are 2 types of leaves (not counting duckfoot or freakshow) narrow and broad. Usually that is just an indication on genotypes. Narrow leaf is stativa leaning. Broad leaf indica leaning. This current grow I'm on now, I popped 4 seeds. 3 were broad leaf and one was narrow leaf all from the same mother. Males will sometimes be the taller, more vigorously growing plant. I say sometimes because you could also get short trait in a male. I mostly grow indoor so I look for the shorter one. I don't want 10 for trees inside. Long story short you're just seeing phenotypes. 💚💚
I read about females being shorter and more but bunched and males being taller and more spread out but I was not sure how for sure that was. The male I grew before grew fast and really tall compared to these two that are short this go around.
Males do tend to grow taller it's just not a sure fire way to tell. What if one parent was really tall and the other short and your female got the tall pheno? Just have to wait it out. You don't have to remove males the second they show a preflower. You'll have time. Gardening is a waiting game. Plants move at their schedule
Fingers crossed in the mean time lol I should now in the next 2 weeks I believe.
The one that got a little too dry is getting greener and the one that got a little too much water is now almost fully green but the stem. The one I think is a male is getting really tall while the other two are are staying the same hight right now.
This was 3 nodes hight. Something clearly ate the top of it. Is there a way to save it or do I need to give it up?
Maybe i would definatly put a net screen thing over it and just let it go worse case nothing lol and a dome act like it just started its still got its little leaves
I was hoping that at least what's left might sprout flowers at least so it's not a waste. I'm not sure if it will though.
I would trim the top piece off just pinch it right above the leaves so it will form a new node then it should be ok they only start with those little leaves so i think it having a fresh top theres no nodes left so that would be the first node
Thank you for the advice. 😊
Yea good luck deinately put a dome over it
What strain/s you got cooking up
I don't remember, they are 2 years old seeds so I was surprised it even sprouted. I do know it's mixed seeds so idk if they are male or female.
Will you be breeding for free seeds
Not for free. I won't have any more seeds till these ones grow though. It's a good strain and kinda strong. Hopefully I'll have a female out of these seeds.
Nice fingers 🤞 🔀
